Sidechild
Sidechild, the stagename for Pontus from Sweden, was indecisive when putting together his first album. One day his computer crashed and wiped out every single home recording he’d made. After that happened, he decided to gather all his notes and see if any of the songs were worth recording. He went through his old song pads and played some stuff to his friends in the music/producer collective Soundhabits Stockholm. Uplifted by their encouraging words, he decided that it was time to put some of his other projects aside and start to focus on his own music. In the autumn of 2007, Sidechild recorded a three-song demo that through some friends, reached the ears of The Magic Numbers lead singer Romeo Stodart. Excited by the songs Romeo sent, Sidechild received an email offering him the opening slot for The Magic Numbers Christmas tour in Sweden and Finland. Before he knew it Sidechild was playing his very first gigs in front of audiences of thousands. The following year was a year of ups and downs for Sidechild; he was doing some great live shows in Sweden but the recordings didn’t sound like he wanted them to and a promised record deal in France fell through last minute. By the end of 2008 Sidechild decided to leave most of his old recordings and head back into the studio. This time only working with a tightly knit group of musicians and producers. Together they quickly started to realize the full potential of Sidechild’s music. In the spring of 2009 all the songs were recorded and mixed and now Music For Children is available in Scandinavia. The first single “Come On Come On” is currently getting airplay on Swedish national radio and the video is on rotation on most of Sweden’s music channels. In the closing months of 2009, Sidechild was in Japan performing five live shows in Tokyo and he will continue gaining air miles when he heads to Los Angeles this April to perform.
