TATTERSFIELD NAMED CHAIRMAN/CEO WARNER MUSIC UK

Christian Tattersfield
Warner Music Group has named Christian Tattersfield, Founder 14th Floor Records, as its new Chairman/CEO of Warner Bros. UK. Tattersfield replaces former Warner Bros. UK Managing Director Korda Marshall, who left his post to relaunch the independent Infectious Records.

Under his new role Tattersfield will assume responsibility for all of Warner Music’s labels in the UK, including Warner Bros. Records, Atlantic and Rhino. He will also oversee the development of emerging local talent, coordinating campaigns for the label’s international artists, devising cross-label strategies to strengthen Warner Music UK’s artist services offer and will help build the company’s digital strategies and activities. Tattersfield will report to Warner Music Europe chairman John Reid in the new role.

Meanwhile, Atlantic Records UK President Max Lousada has been promoted to Chairman of Atlantic UK.

Reid stated, “I’m delighted to announce Christian’s appointment to this pivotal role, and to be placing our UK business under such capable leadership. His unrivalled A&R vision, creative marketing instincts and commitment to his artists has resulted in some of the most extraordinary success stories of recent years, notable both for their critical acclaim as well as their popularity.”

Warner Music Group Vice Chairman Lyor Cohen commented, “Christian is that rare executive who combines incredible creative instincts with real understanding of today’s music business. By consistently and passionately putting artists first, he has established an impressive track record of artist development that makes him an exceptional fit for Warner Music. I am confident Christian’s addition to the team positions us to build on those foundations and grow our business in this important market.”

Tattersfield stated, “A&R has been at the heart of each label I have founded so I am excited to be joining a company whose rich musical heritage is matched only by its continued commitment to artistic excellence. I look forward to working with the talented team at Warner Music UK to cement its position as the first-choice destination for artists looking to build successful and enduring careers.”

Tattersfield started his career in music at London Records in 1990 and has been responsible for signing and/or developing artists like David Gray, Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne and Biffy Clyro. In 1997 he moved to BMG where he founded the NorthWestSide label, whose signings included Jay-Z, Another Level and N Sync. Tattersfield launched 14th Floor in 2002.

AUSTRALIA’S LUKE CARLSON HITS A NOTE WITH THE SWEDES

Australia is well known for its rock artists, but it has also been consistently punching well above its weight with pop-inspired artists such as Savage Garden; Bee Gees; INXS, Presets, etc. Newcomer Luke Carlson is a name that could be joining that esteemed list.

Hailing from Melbourne, Carlson is an ’80s inspired songwriter whose synth-driven, catchy pop anthems are starting to prick up the ears of tastemakers across the globe (especially in Sweden). With an undeniable knack for melody and pop smarts, Carlson has been holed up in his bedroom crafting songs that demand instant attention. His self-penned tunes are a unique blend of ’80s innovation and present day electro influence. Consider if The Cure and MGMT had a love-child and you could be on the right path.

Carlson is managed by Darren Danielson and Zoran Romic from the respected independent management company The Fur Group (Skybombers, Jason Singh, The Models), with live representation by Australia’s leading booking agent The Harbour Agency (Australia only).

Carlson is poised for big things purely on the back of current demos. Having already performed with New Young Pony Club and The Temper Trap and boasting a sound that defies borders, it is time for Luke Carlson to soon stand on the world’s stage. Carlson is currently unsigned and unpublished for the world. Click HERE to listen to his song “Pretty Little Chemical.”

DJ MASON INKS NEW LABEL DEAL THROUGH DMC (RUN-DMC)
AND SAM SPARRO TRACK

DJ Mason
Run DMC
Dutch electro DJ Mason and studio partner Coen have signed their forthcoming single, “Corrected,” featuring legendary hip-hop artist Darryl “DMC” McDaniels (Run-DMC) and pop sensation Sam Sparro, to Ministry of Sound--the label to which they were previously signed. This follows Mason’s last single, “Exceeder” featuring Princess Superstar, which went to No.3 in the UK before achieving similar success across the globe. The artist and management team felt it only best to repeat the process and go back to the label with which they had previously achieved that success.

DJ Mason’s 7pm Management stated, “Ministry of Sound has probably the best understanding of delivering dance records into the national chart and with Mason we are confident that they are the right company to deliver the artist with what we think is a very special record featuring three Top 10 artists from three different countries.” Ministry of Sound has licensed the record from Mason’s newly set up label Animal Language; “Corrected” featuring DMC and Sam Sparro is the first single off Mason’s soon to be released album, which also features collaborations with Aqualung, Kurtis Blow and Debbie Clare (Massive Attack). The track has already received support from Pete Tong and XFMs Eddy Temple Morris, who were both given exclusive promos of the tune to play ahead of the deal.
