ONE MOVEMENT FOR MUSIC ATTRACTS GLOBAL MUSIC INDUSTRY & TOP SHOWCASE ACTS TO PERTH, AUSTRALIA



One Movement for Music Perth (OMFM) and MUSEXPO Asia Pacific www.onemovementmusic.com have confirmed additional executives to join the already impressive international lineup announced for the October 6-10, 2010 event.

Derived from multiple countries on various continents, it follows on the heels of the highly successful launch of One Movement for Music Perth and One Movement MUSEXPO Asia Pacific last year, which was hailed by attendees at the most important music-focused industry event in the Southern Hemisphere.

Making their way to Perth for OMFM 2010 will be industry executives including worldwide manager of Lady GaGa and Founder/Chairman & CEO Coalition Media Group Troy Carter, David Loiterton (Managing Director, Omnifone, APAC), Kevin Arnold (Founder/CEO, IODA, USA) and Arjun Sankalia (Director, Repertoire & Special Products, Sony Music Entertainment, India).

UNIVERSAL EXTENDS PUBLISHING DEAL WITH COLDPLAY




Universal Music Publishing Group has announced the extension of its publishing agreement with Coldplay to cover their future songwriting. First signed to the company in 1999 by Caroline Elleray, Head of A&R, Universal Music Publishing UK, the band’s first album, Parachutes garnered them a Mercury Prize nomination, their first Grammy® win, and propelled the band to worldwide fame. With their fourth studio album, 2008’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, providing the band’s first US and UK No.1 single together with further award wins and another massively successful global tour, Coldplay cemented their reputation as one of the world’s most renowned bands.

STOP START MUSIC SIGNS HUNGRY KIDS OF HUNGARY



New Australian independent Stop Start Music announced that it has signed Brisbane, Australia-based quartet Hungry Kids Of Hungary to its growing roster. Joining Old Man River and Maniac to Australia’s newest indie label, 2010 is shaping up to be a good year for Stop Start Music.

Hailing from Queensland, Hungry Kids Of Hungary have enjoyed countless successes off the back of their 2009 debut, self-titled EP. Their most recent achievement, taking home the 2010 Q Music Award for the Alternative Category (for the second year in a row) and Song Of The Year for “Wristwatch.” Already boasting a quartet of radio singles and a relentless touring schedule, Hungry Kids Of Hungary has wasted no time carving out a name for themselves both locally and internationally.

Those already familiar with tracks such as “Let You Down,” “Scattered Diamonds,” “Set It Right” and current single “Wristwatch” will be well aware of this band’s ability to deliver modern indie gems, stacked with killer melodies and a healthy dose of ’60s pop panache. The London Paper has called him “THE singer-songwriter” and in the last two years, Matt Adey has carved a name for himself in the UK music scene. Kimbra is a 20 year old from New Zealand that truly has an extraordinary voice that can be recognized after just one listen. As a teen growing up, Kimbra’s gifts were recognized early on. Already gigging solo, she twice won grants from NZ On Air – one of which resulted in a recording session with Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers) and went on to receive heavy rotation on radio and television. Kimbra soon relocated to Melbourne to cultivate her musical profile and under the wing of Forum 5 management paired up with producer Francois Tetaz (Architecture In Helsinki, Bertie Blackman) to begin work on her debut album. On her initial single, “Settle Down,” Kimbra again paired up with producer Francois Tetaz and Australian Urban-leaning producer M-Phazes (Amerie, Pharoahe Monch).

A passionate and captivating musician, Ronit has developed a devoted following around Australia that grows with each performance: audiences are drawn to her strong vocals and emotive, honest lyricism, while being floored by her fiery guitar playing. Her sound is a melting pot of soul, roots and rock with hints of Middle Eastern-inspired melody, due in part to her Israeli heritage. Whether playing with her band or performing intimate solo concerts, Ronit has swiftly carved a reputation as one of the city’s most exciting live acts. Her music has been used in a successful short film, The Wake, directed by Gemma Lee. British publishing executive Janice Brock (Sony/ATV), who worked closely for many years with Marty Bandier, Chairman/CEO, Sony/ATV, has been given a newly expanded role at Sony/ATV as the publisher’s liaison for A&R acquisitions outside of North America.

UK act Good-Natured are currently in the studio mixing their new material with Adrian Bushby (Muse) and plan to release their new single as a limited release in October. The band also has an EP set for release in Japan and the US in October.

Max Gousse, VP A&R Island/Def Jam, has signed UK act N-Dubz to a worldwide deal (outside of the UK). Gousse tells A&R Worldwide he signed the No.1 UK outfit recently. The band is managed by veteran British manager and TV personality Jonathan Shalit, CEO ROAR Group.

BMG Rights Management has signed producer and songwriter Clarence McDonald to a North American administration agreement. The deal, which also covers all McDonald’s related music publishing companies which he partners with artists including Lani Groves, Deniece Williams and Bill Daniels (for the late Fritz Baskett), sees the company representing the rights to songs penned by McDonald including Monica’s number one R&B song “Everything To Me.”

Sales of digital albums have grown 51% in both unit terms and value terms in the first half of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009. The figures come from German music association BVMI and show that 4.7 million digital albums were sold in the first six months of this year compared to 3.1 million in the first six months of the previous year.

Billboard reports that these sales generated €41.5 million ($34.1m) compared to €27.5 million ($22.6m) a year earlier. Sales of single track downloads were 29.7 million (up from 22.9m) and generated €30.4 million ($24.9m).

Universal Music Group has signed a long-term worldwide deal with Annie Lennox. Since her career with the Eurythmics and as a solo artist Lennox has amassed sales of over 80 million albums worldwide. Lennox will release her new album, Christmas Cornucopia on November 22 via Island Records in the UK and on Decca Records throughout the rest of international territories.

EMI Label Services has signed a deal with 50 Cent’s label, G-Unit Records, in which EMI will distribute and promote releases on the G-Unit roster in North America. EMI Label Services and Caroline Distribution vice president and general manager Mike Harris says the deal is with some “truly marquee names in hip-hop.” Through the deal, the company will release the Grammy nominated multi-platinum rapper Lloyd Banks’ third solo album H.F.M. 2 later this year and Tony Yayo’s as yet untitled second album scheduled for release in 2011.

SC-based modern rock quartet Quarterfly has signed to Rock Ridge Music and will be releasing their third album, Do You Believe, in January 2011. The album was produced by Greg Archilla (Buckcherry, Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, Edwin McCain), who also worked on the band’s 2007 release, Quarterfly II.

Legendary Pink Floyd founding member Roger Waters has extended his worldwide publishing deal by signing an ongoing agreement with Warner/Chappell.
