INTERSCOPE FOUNDER RETURNS WITH TRAUMA 2
Radar Pictures, LLC recently announced the launch of Trauma 2 Records. The label is founded in partnership with former Interscope Records CEO and Founder Ted Field, Rob Kahane (Founder, Trauma Records) and former UMG executive Thomas E. VanDell. Field is the CEO of the new label, Kahane takes on the role as President and VanDell will be the COO of Trauma 2. The label is a part of the new 360 model with Radar Pictures that is integrating the platforms of music, film and television.
This cross-platform approach will allow the company to sign music artists and break them through its television and film capabilities. Once they are signed to Trauma 2, artists may expect not just placement of their music in Radar’s films and television shows but also the development of specific TV and film properties appropriate to their image and designed to make them multi-media stars. This may include reality TV shows, small music related films built around them, and, when appropriate and when their acting ability permits, roles in larger films or television series RADAR may be producing.
Ted Field states, “The team that Radar has put together is capable of crossing artists into more than one entertainment vertical. Few companies are currently thinking this way and Radar has a close knit, nimble staff that communicates about opportunities between divisions in real time on an ongoing basis. I’m particularly excited about this integrated multi-platform approach.”
Trauma 2 Records has completed a deal with former MCA Records President Jay Boberg for distribution through INgrooves Fontana that includes up-streaming to Universal Republic.
U.S. music industry veteran Mike Jacobs takes on the role of Sr. VP of Trauma 2 Records and tells A&R Worldwide that to date the label has signed three acts, which range from a singer/songwriter, rock band and pop act. A&R Worldwide is unable to disclose the names of the three signings at this time. A&R WORLDWIDE’S "ARTIST OF THE WEEK" – VERSIVES
Versives is Alan Matthews and Kevin J. Power, a two-piece electronic pop outfit from Cork, Ireland that have drawn musical comparisons to New Order and the Pet Shop Boys. After carefully crafting their sound over a series of EPs with producer Ciarแn O’ Shea (ex-Cyclefly), Versives’ first single “Kicking Up a Brand New Storm” was picked up by BBC Radio in the UK and led to a deal with Leeds-based independent label TAKEA!MF!RE, who are digitally releasing the band’s music in Britain. In Ireland, Versives were featured on TV3’s The Apprentice (“Backstage Pass” Best Unsigned Bands Compilation CD) and have appeared on the playlists of RTE 2FM, Today FM, Phantom FM in addition to stations in Cork (96FM, Red FM), Limerick (Live 95), Waterford (WLR, Beat FM) and Galway, featured on as well as touring nationwide with an intense, sharp live show. Their latest single, “Two Enemies,” takes the big beats down a notch or two from their first single, with a fragile, Mark Linkous-style vocal easing the electronics along before gently peaking with some sumptuous keys. Versives’ single, “Two Enemies” can be sampled HERE. The band is currently available for signing, licensing, booking, publishing and synch opportunities, as well as remixes for hire. A&R WORLDWIDE’S "VIDEO OF THE WEEK" – THE HEAVY
The Heavy have been around since 2007 and have already accomplished what many bands could dream of. Firstly, their song "How You Like Me Now" was used in a KIA Sorento commercial during the 2010 Super Bowl and secondly, they performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, and he asked for an encore--a first for any band, ever. Not bad for the quintet from Noid, England, who released their first single, "That Kind of Man," which led to a deal with Ninja Tune. They've received praise in both Spin and Rolling Stone for their style of heavy guitar rock mixed with neo-soul with funky horns and samples. Their international hit "How You Like Me Now" was also used in a variety of Television shows such as Entourage and Community and major motion pictures namely The Fighter, Horrible Bosses, The Change-Up, Limitless and the trailer for Ted. The tune was taken from their sophomore album The House That Dirt Built which was produced by Jim Abbiss (Adele, Editors, The Temper Trap). Their latest album, The Glorious Dead (Counter/Ninja Tune) scheduled for release next week, builds off the momentum that was created with "How You Like me Now" with the centerpiece track, "What Makes A Good Man?." The vintage tune is a gritty soul-searching opus with epic strings and back up vocals from church-trained singers that gives a nod to Ray Charles' "I Got A Woman." The video for "What Makes A Good Man?" displays a man's journey and his judgements––both good and bad, with the ultimate decision to do the right thing.
