DME LAUNCHES TO STRENGTHEN EUROPEAN DIGITAL MUSIC INDUSTRY

Last week saw the launch of a new alliance, bringing together leading European digital music companies to form Digital Music Europe (DME). Among the companies represented within the alliance are included 7digital, Deezer, Qobuz, SoundCloud, Soundcharts and Spotify. DME will seek to share and promote the success of the European digital music industry, as well as provide a resource for policy-makers, media and the digital music industry, and advocate for policies to ensure a healthy business environment for digital music.

Deezer’s President of Digital Music Europe, Hans-Holger Albrecht, commented, “For a decade, European digital music companies have led the transformation of the music industry globally. Bringing these companies together to create DME is a great opportunity to highlight European leadership in this sector, inspire other European entrepreneurs and create a unique voice with policy-makers.”

“DME is eager to share the experience and vision of its members to contribute to policy debates shaping Europe’s Digital Single Market. We believe that policy-makers have a key role to play to support the growth of the entire music sector and enable more innovation in Europe,” says Olivia Regnier, Chair of DME and Director of EU Regulatory Affairs, Spotify.

With Europe maintaining its position as a global leader for innovation and global success within the digital music space, DME member companies have helped transform the digital music landscape, bringing artists and their music to new audiences around the world and delivering consumers new and compelling digital music experiences. In 2016, the recorded music market grew by 4% in Europe marking the fastest growth rate in two decades, driven primarily by the mass adoption of streaming.

As important policy debates on copyright, geo-blocking, online platforms, e-privacy, data transfers, digital contracts and taxation move forward, DME will work alongside European policy-makers and others vested in music to create a legislative and regulatory framework that supports the healthy evolution of digital music, benefiting both artists and consumers.

A&R WORLDWIDE’S "VIDEO OF THE WEEK" - AVA LOVE

Ava Love has quickly established themselves as a musical force to be reckoned with right away. The five-piece from Edinburgh debuted on the scene with the single “Subterranean,” a visceral under two minutes of pop that calls to mind early Simple Minds. Quickly rising through the ranks, they followed the track with another hard hitter in “Chophouse.” It’s clear with these two singles, this is a band that wants to challenge and push boundaries. After playing just two live shows, they made their radio debut with a live session on The BBC Quay sessions with Roddy Hart and have earned a great deal of support from BBC Introducing in Scotland. The video for “Chophouse,” filmed by Scottish photographer Gavin Craigie with animation by the Skeleton Crew, has turned many heads with its brilliance. Watch the video HERE and contact Scott Kirkwood at scott@skmgmt.co.uk and Aimmi Dunsmuir at aimmi@atcmanagement.com, as Ava Love is currently available for licensing, booking and synch opportunities.
