BMG has unveiled its new partnership with Louis Tomlinson to release his second solo album worldwide. Tomlinson, who as part of One Direction sold 100 million albums and whose solo work has generated over one billion streams has already begun recording the new album.

Last year, Tomlinson released his million–selling debut solo album Walls, which hit the Top 3 in the UK and Top 10 in the USA. The album produced a clutch of acclaimed singles including the emotive first release “Two of Us,” the raucous “Kill My Mind” and the reflective “We Made It.”

In 2019 Louis headlined the Coca–Cola music festival in Madrid, Spain to an audience of 25,000 people and performed to 65,000 fans at Premios Telehit in the Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City. Louis picked up the “Best Song Award” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for “Two Of Us,” which generated over 100 million streams on Spotify.

Tomlinson has also announced the first wave of new 2022 dates for his postponed World Tour in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia, including a brand–new date at London’s Wembley Arena. This show replaces his two sold–out London shows at The Roundhouse, and tickets will be transferred to the new venue.

BMG has also confirmed the signing of renowned British DJ Carl Cox and is poised to release his forthcoming album.


Sony Music Publishing UK has signed hit songwriter, producer, and multi–instrumentalist Ben Jackson–Cook to a worldwide deal. Ben, a native of South London recently gained notoriety as Rag’n’Bone Man’s musical director and primary collaborator, co–writing and co–producing his new album Life By Misadventure in its entirety, including his brand new single “Crossfire.” Life By Misadventure was released on May 7 and is already outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined on the UK Official Album Charts and poised to become one of the biggest selling albums of 2021.

Ben has recently been working on collaborations with an array of music industry heavy hitters and exciting newcomers, which include Mike Elizondo, Natalie Hemby, Allen Shamblin & Mike Reid, Wendy Melvoin, Daru Jones, Jamie Lidell, Simon Aldred, Wayne Hector, Tom Grennan, JP Cooper and many more.

Warner Chappell Music has entered into an international publishing agreement with multi–Platinum record producer Vinylz. Vinylz has become the go–to producer for a long list of top artists that include the likes of Drake, Justin Bieber, Jay–Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Travis Scott, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown among others.

Most recently, Vinylz co–produced two songs on Justin Bieber’s surprise EP Freedom – “Freedom” feat. Beam and “All She Wrote” feat. Brandon Love and Chandler Moore, as well as working on pop singer/songwriter Starrah’s debut album, The Longest Interlude.

Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced the appointment of accomplished consumer marketing, strategy and commerce executive Richelle Parham as President of Global E–Commerce & Business Development.

In the newly created role, Parham will oversee UMG’s global e–commerce strategy and business development across the company’s iconic labels, music publishing company, operating units and territories. Parham’s appointment is effective June 2, and she’ll be based in Santa Monica, CA where she will report to Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO, UMG.

In making the announcement, Grainge said, “We are very pleased to have Richelle join our stellar leadership team, where she will play a key role in advancing our global strategy. Richelle’s proven leadership and expertise in consumer marketing, audience growth, business development and direct–to–consumer initiatives will be a valuable resource for our artists and drive our vision of a holistic fan–centric program that complements our partner platforms.”

“It’s an honor to join UMG,” said Parham. “As one of the world’s most innovative and strategic companies in any industry, UMG possesses an incredibly talented leadership team, a global footprint, iconic labels and publishing company, as well as other music businesses.”

Parham joins UMG from the firm WestRiver Group, where she served as Managing Director, leading investments in the consumer experience economy. Before WestRiver, she served as General Partner of Camden Partners, a private equity firm focused on investing in growth–stage global consumer companies. Parham has also led business teams in global strategy and marketing at eBay and Visa.


IT’S OFFICIAL: The Recording Academy’s Board of Trustees has officially appointed Harvey Mason Jr. as the Academy’s CEO & President, effective June 1, 2021. Mason had been in the position on an unpaid and interim basis since January 2020. Prior to that, Mason was Chair of the Academy’s Board, a role he now relinquishes. Under Mason’s watch, MusiCares raised and distributed over $24 million to help struggling music creators through the pandemic. Mason also implemented the final recommendations of its Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, hired its first–ever Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer, and conducted a restructure of the organization. Additionally, the Academy launched a new Songwriters & Composers Wing and the Black Music Collective.

GOING FOR GOLD AND PLATINUM: Julian Palmer, Sr. Director A&R, Columbia Records, U.K. is juggling numerous A&R plates even during a pandemic! Palmer helped A&R and oversee the recording of Life By Misadventure, which is the follow–up album to Rag’N’Bone Man’s multi–Platinum debut release, Human, (which boasted the hit single of the same name). Like any great A&R executive, Palmer is also developing new talent including the 20–year–old from Bath, England known as Willow Kayne, who recently released her new single, “Two Seater.” Willow is managed by rising British music industry star Maria Lane, who is a part of TaP Management. Palmer is hoping to add more Gold, or preferably, Platinum success to the “palms” of his A&R hands!

A NEW TV SHOW ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?: A&R Worldwide has learned that a major U.S. studio network is developing a scripted TV drama about the music industry. A&R’S SWOONING OVER THE SWOONS?: A&R Worldwide supported Los Angeles–based unsigned act The Swoons, who have been under the watchful ears of a number of A&R executives on both sides of the Atlantic, have won the “Best Rock Song” category at the prestigious annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest for their single “Conspiracy of Silence.” The song garnered A&R Worldwide’s early development support with mixer Michael Brauer (Coldplay, Muse, John Mayer) adding his multi–Platinum touch to the track. The band is managed by London, England–based Cathy Mathalone (Founder, Conchord Management) and supported by A&R Worldwide’s executive team, along with highly influential Los Angeles–based music attorney Doug Mark, whose legal firm represents Billie Eilish, Andrew Watt, Danny Elfman amongst others.

SINGING A NEW TUNE: TuneCore has announced the appointment of Dan Rutman, Director for the US and Canada. Rutman will be tasked with business development for acquisition–based strategic partnerships and brand partnerships across all key industries for TuneCore. He’ll also be responsible for Canadian artist relations and partnerships as the Head of TuneCore Canada. A key strategic focus for Rutman is a collaboration with music tech start up Groover, an ecosystem that enables independent artists to promote themselves to tastemakers and music industry professionals. Prior to joining TuneCore, Rutman founded Solitaire Recordings, an independent record label that accumulated over 100 million streams over its lifetime.

WELCOMING A NEW PEER: Peermusic Nashville has signed legendary artist and songwriter Lee Greenwood to an exclusive global music publishing deal. Through this new deal, Peermusic will administer some of his most iconic songs, including the classic “God Bless The U.S.A,” which has been in the Top 5 on the Country singles charts three times (1991, 2001, 2003), making it the only song in any genre of music to achieve that feat. Since beginning his career in the 1960s, Greenwood’s catalog also includes twenty–two studio albums and seven No.1 hits, including “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “Going, Going, Gone,” “Dixie Road” and “Mornin’ Ride.” He has earned multiple awards, including a Grammy for Top Male Vocal Performance for “I.O.U.” in 1985.

GOODBYE & HELLO: Julian Krohn the renowned Creative Director for German–based ad agency White Horse Media that have worked on campaigns for brands such as Vodafone, Bosch, Apple, Aldi, tells A&R Worldwide that he has decided to leave the company and move back to Berlin to pursue a path with a new ad agency. Krohn is taking on a new role at the established German ad agency, Scholz & Friends, to take on the role Director Music & Audio, where he will build a new division there. Prior to joining White Horse, Julian spent 10 years at Universal Music Germany in a number of positions – his last role being A&R Manager in the Universal Music Pop division, where he discovered and supported acts like Lena, Unheilig, Laing, Abby and Die Orson. Prior to that, Julian was Repertoire Manager and Song Consultant at Kobalt Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing.

A BIGGER SLICE OF DIGITAL PIZZA: Italian distribution company and record label Artist First has acquired a 51% stake in Milan, Italy–based digital agency Officine Orange. Launched in 2010 by Alessandro Fabozzi and Diego Jirillo, Officine Orange specializes in products and services for companies in the digital marketplace including web development, web marketing, social media management and online advertising. Samsung, Mercedes–Benz, Adidas and other major brands are among Officine Orange’s existing clients. Artist First was launched by Claudio Ferrante in 2009 and has 50 employees in Milan and offices in London, overseen by industry veteran Charlie Rapino. This partnership is being launched with an initiative called ‘Fankey,’ a fan–focused platform currently in Beta testing, offering direct–to–fan e–commerce and already endorsed by a number of high–profile Italian artists including Francesco Gabbani. Artist First recently announced the purchase of a significant shareholding in live booking agency Colorsound. This new announcement represents the next stage in the company’s ambitious growth strategy.

SIGNING ON THE DOTTED LINE: Warner Records has signed Filipino–American TikTok influencer and artist Bella Poarch, who has just released her debut single, “Build A Bitch.” The video surpassed over 14 million views in the first 24 hours of its release last Friday. Besides being a singer, Poarch is also a US Navy veteran and has racked–up over 66 million followers and over 1.5 billion likes on TikTok. Furthermore, Poarch has the most likes on a single video on TikTok, with over 50 million likes and is the social media platform’s third largest creator.

REVVING UP THEIR RPM’S: Music solutions and digital distribution company ONErpm has opened a new Nashville office and hired and promoted five well–established female executives to their marketing division. Standing from left to right in the photo are Stephanie Onder, Diana Garcia, Stephanie Murphy, Julia Mcleod and Casey Childers who combine over 40 years of experience from various capacities and bring a vast knowledge from a variety of music genres, and come highly equipped with PR, management or marketing expertise. From Outlaw & Country to Pop & Dance, these capable executives aim to grow ONErpm’s Nashville office and contribute to the growth of their 26 other locations worldwide.

WORKING EVEN HARDER: Dirk Hemsath, Co–Founder & CEO, Hard 8/Working Group has added artist manager Aimee Beren to the Nashville, TN diision of his management company. Beren will continue to manage her current client awfultune, who has racked–up over 125 million streams globally and will also oversee daily management duties for multi–Platinum selling artist Daughtry. Beren who began her career in radio held prior management positions at Three Six Zero, Seven 20 and Prodigy Artists where she was Vice President of Operations.

WHAT ARE THEY SYNCING: Sentric Music Group has appointed longtime publishing and recording executive Bridget O’Gara Bloom as Head of Sync, North America and promoted Patrick Cloherty, Head of Sync, Europe. Based in Los Angeles, O’Gara Bloom will spearhead Sentric’s expanding sync presence in the publishing market within the U.S. and neighbouring territories; she’ll report directly to Chris Meehan, Founder & CEO, Sentric and will work closely alongside Patrick Cloherty. Cloherty takes on a senior role to drive the group’s sync proposition across European markets. He will oversee strategic and operational management of the department to further expand sync business activity across multiple sectors and territories.

MORE THAN A LITTLE: Busy “manuka honey bee” loving Kiwi Ashley Page – manager of multi–Platinum songwriter/producer (and fellow New Zealander) Joel Little has been grinning cheek to cheek lately. It’s no wonder as Little has been doing “A LOT” in the world of streaming, and recently celebrated his fourth billion streaming award from APRA AMCOS – collectively the Performing Right Association and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners in Australasia. Page states, “Congratulations to Joel Little on his award and even more amazingly with four different artists including ‘Me’ by Taylor Swift; ‘Young, Dumb & Broke,’ by Khalid; Imagine Dragons’ ‘Whatever It Takes’ and ‘Royals’ by Lorde. An insane achievement. Onwards!” Other New Zealand songwriters recognized for hitting the billion streams benchmark included Lorde (real name Ella Yellich–O’Connor), James Wong and Leroy Clampitt, both recognized for their work on Justin Bieber’s track “Company,” from his 2015 album Purpose.

LET’S MAKE A DEAL: Reservoir has signed Platinum–selling songwriter and artist Daniel Breland (pka BRELAND) to a worldwide publishing deal. The agreement includes his full catalogue and breakout hit “My Truck,” as well as future works. The signing marks BRELAND’s first–ever publishing deal. BRELAND broke through as a songwriter, landing a number of high–profile cuts for YK Osiris and ELHAE. His song “My Truck” became a Platinum–certified track, appeared in a Chevrolet advertising campaign and garnered multi–platform success, hitting No.1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 and U.S. Viral 50 charts. The single’s success helped pave the way for his signing a record deal with Bad Realm Records/Atlantic Records.

DOING THE CHUMBA WITHOUT THE WUMBA: Grammy nominated producer and songwriter Jason Evigan’s publishing and production company Chumba Music has partnered with Sony Music Publishing to provide its services to Chumba’s roster of songwriters and producers. Chumba Music has also tapped music executive Aaron Sander as Head of A&R. Sander was most recently an A&R executive with Interscope Records. Chumba Music is a boutique music publishing and production company that was founded in 2015 by songwriter Jason Evigan who is known for crafting global hits with artists such as Dua Lipa, Maroon 5, Dan & Shay, RUFUS DU SOL, Ellie Goulding, Juice WRLD and many others.

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME: Lauren Wirtzer–Seawood has been appointed as the new Chief Content & Marketing Officer, SoundCloud. In her new role she will be responsible for artist development and marketing, editorial programming, creative, brand marketing, communications, artist management and promotion. Before joining SoundCloud, Wirtzer–Seawood served as President of the independent music distribution platform UnitedMasters, which recently secured a $50 million Series B investment with Apple. Wirtzer–Seawood join the company on June 1, 2021 and will report directly to Michael Weissman, CEO of SoundCloud.

ADDING MORE STEAM TO ITS TEAM: Venice Distribution, which enables record labels to beta–test songs, manage artist rosters and distribute music easily and efficiently, and is the software division of Q&A (the music startup founded by Troy Carter and Suzy Ryoo) has been bolstering its team. The company recently hired East Coast–based Deryck Vanderbilt–Nicholson as its Head of US Audience & Culture and West Coast–based Sophia Bacuros as Vice President of Digital Marketing. Both join the growing team at Venice Distribution, which is based in Venice, CA.

MOVING ON UP WITH RHINO: Rhino Entertainment, the catalogue division of Warner Music Group (WMG), has upped Eric Franklin to Vice President of Digital Account Strategy. Based in Los Angeles, Franklin reports to Mark Pinkus, President U.S. Catalog and Rhino Entertainment. In his new role, Franklin will oversee U.S. digital revenues and account relationships, including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and other global digital platforms. Franklin’s team conceives and executes global digital marketing and promotional strategies for Rhino’s vast catalog of iconic artists, including Led Zeppelin, The Notorious B.I.G., Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Madonna, Prince and many others.

FEELING PROPER & IRIE: Proper Music Group, a leading U.K. physical distributor has signed a deal with reggae label VP Records to distribute their catalogue in the U.K. and ROI. The agreement will cover sales, warehousing and logistics, and also includes hub services – delivering product to EU–based distributors. The new deal highlights VP Records’ continued commitment to releasing on CD and vinyl.

Cadmium is a Pop/Future bass producer who has earned more than 330 million views/spins across all streaming platforms worldwide.
