Phebe Hunnicutt has been appointed to the newly created role of Sr. VP, International, Warner Recorded Music (WRM). Reporting to Simon Robson, President, International, Warner Recorded Music, Hunnicutt will help drive the continued evolution and innovation of Warner Music internationally, to stay ahead of the dynamic changes impacting the recorded music industry. Her appointment comes at a time when Warner Music Group (WMG) is expanding its global footprint, tapping into new opportunities in mature and emerging economies alike. She will work closely with WMG’s business development team, as well as division, label and territory heads across the Warner Recorded Music business.
Hunnicutt joins from hayu, the subscription-based video streaming service owned by NBC Universal International, where she led on its global expansion projects, new territory launches, and its commercial strategy to drive subscriber growth in established markets. She also works in editorial roles for fashion magazines and websites such as O The Oprah Magazine, Nylon Magazine, ELLEgirl.com and StyleList.com. She originally moved to London to help launch AOL’s MyDaily.comThe Huffington Post, where she served as Managing Editor, before becoming Digital Director at ELLE UK and then Director of Content and Editorial at Hearst Magazines International.
Also, Phil Kaso has been promoted to Sr. Vice President of Rock Promotion for Atlantic Records/Elektra Music Group. In his new post, Kaso – who was most recently Vice President of Rock Promotion for Elektra – will expand his current duties to lead promotion strategy and campaigns for both Atlantic’s and Elektra’s rock rosters. The individual labels’ regional promotion staffs will continue to work their respective artists, under Kaso’s direction. Based at Warner Music Group’s New York headquarters, he now reports jointly to Andrea Ganis, President of Promotion for Atlantic Records, and Greg Dorfman, Executive Vice President, Promotion for Elektra Music Group.

Kaso has spent much of his career with Warner Music Group, after starting in the industry as National Promotion Coordinator at RCA Records. In 1999, he joined Roadrunner Records, WMG’s flagship metal and rock label, as Northeast Regional Promotion Director and spent the next two decades rising up the ranks. Last year, Kaso was named Vice President of Rock Promotion for Elektra Music Group, which includes Roadrunner, Fueled By Ramen, and other subsidiary labels. He has worked closely with artists such as Slipknot and Korn, while scoring No. 1 rock records from Theory of a Deadman, Stone Sour, Corey Taylor, and most recently, A Day to Remember.

Kaso’s appointment follows the recent retirement of renowned veteran rock promotion executive Lea Pisacane after 34 years at Atlantic.


Last week, Monte Lipman and Avery Lipman, Co–Founders, Republic Records announced the promotion of veteran staffers Wendy Goldstein and Jim Roppo to the roles of Co–Presidents, Republic Records.
Goldstein, who is based in Los Angeles, has served as President, West Coast Creative since 2019, and was previously President, West Coast – a position she held since 2017. Goldstein initially joined Republic in 2009 as an A&R Consultant and was elevated in 2011 to the role of Sr. VP A&R, before being promoted in 2014 as Executive Vice President at the label. Before joining Republic, Goldstein held A&R positions at a variety of record labels including Capitol/Priority, MCA Records, Geffen and East West Records.

During her time at Republic Records, Goldstein has signed artists including Jonas Brothers, John Legend, Kim Petras, Billy Porter and others, as well as playing a key role in the success of multi–Platinum selling acts The Weeknd, Arianna Grande, Enrique Iglesias, Julia Michaels and many more.
Roppo, who is based in New York City is a 24–year veteran at Universal Music Group, and initially joined Republic Records back in 2012, and has served as the label’s Executive VP and General Manager since 2018. He initially held the role as Executive VP Marketing & Commerce through 2018, and during his tenure at the label has worked with acts like Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne and many others.

Before joining Republic, Rocco served over a decade at Island Def Jam Music Group where he worked with artists including Kanye West, Jay–Z, Justin Bieber and others in a variety of roles at the company.

Tyler Bacon, President & CEO of Position Music, has announced that Delmar Powell has joined the company as VP of A&R. Prior to joining Position Music, Powell served as Vice President A&R at Downtown Music Publishing and prior to that was Director of A&R, Urban at Republic Records in Santa Monica, CA.
While at Downtown, Powell signed hit producers Dez Wright (Drake, Lil’ Baby, Dababy, Travis Scott, Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar) and Atlanta–based breakout producer and songwriter Tee Romano (BIA, Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, Megan Thee Stallion). While at Republic Records, Powell signed and developed Marc E. Bassy and worked closely with notable artists such as Kiana Lede, Zendaya and Hailee Steinfeld. Delmar also served as the A&R liaison for NBC’s hit TV series The Voice while at Republic.

Additionally, Powell previously managed multi–Platinum singer–songwriter and producer Prince ChrishanPC’ (Yung Bleu, Ty Dolla $ign, Meek Mill, A Boogie, DaBaby and more) and A&R’d Tinashe’s album Songs For You. Most recently, Powell was a part of “Circus” produced by Brian Bates aka “Killah B” (on Billboard’s Hot 100) on Summer Walker’s new album “Still Over It” debuting No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 a few weeks ago.

Working across both the publishing and recorded sides of the company, Powell will report to Mark Chipello VP, Head of A&R, Position Music, and will play a key role in servicing the existing Position Music roster while also continuing to expand the roster with new writers, producers and artists.

With Powell on board, Position Music now has eight full–time employees on their A&R team and an overall staff of thirty.

INCREASING THEIR BELIEF IN INDIA: Believe, the Paris, France-based digital music company has announced that its acquired a 76% stake in South India-based Think Music for €13 million ($14.5+ million USD). This is the latest acquisition for Believe in the India market who have acquired numerous local music companies including Venues Music (now known as Ishtar), Bollywood manager Anurag Rao’s Canvasback back in 2017, as well as securing a more recent deal with Tarsame Mittal, who is one of India’s most influential music and rights managers. Think Music was launched in 2007 and represents non-film, popular film, and independent soundtracks including some key albums from Tamil cinema. Think Music also discovers and promotes emerging talent, and has launched over 40 debut composers including Ghibran, Hiphop Tamizha, and Santhosh Narayanan. Believe currently has offices in seven regions across the SE Asia region including India, with over 170 staff and originally entered the market in 2013 as Believe India.

THEY’VE GONE AWAL: Artist services company AWAL, has announced the launch of a newly structured global team focused on audience development. The company has elevated London, England–based executive Aaron Bogucki from his role as VP, Marketing to Global Head of Audience Development to spearhead the department, effective immediately. AWAL’s Audience Development team specializes in identifying, targeting and engaging artists’ audiences around the world, alongside developing and executing creative and digital–focused strategies and fan–focused marketing initiatives. Furthermore, Charlotte Birch and Nathan Liddle–Hulme, who have both played a key role in AWAL’s recent success are promoted to joint Heads of Marketing for the UK. Charlotte and Nathan will be responsible for overseeing the UK marketing teams and campaigns. They will each run a team but work closely and collaboratively as one UK marketing department. Aaron, Charlotte and Nathan will report jointly to Paul Trueman, General Manager, UK & International and Ron Cerrito, President, North America.

BMG STRIKES A NEW CHORD IN BRAZIL: Henrique & Diego, one of the most renowned Sertanejo artists of the last 15 years, have signed a global recordings agreement with BMG. The duo is responsible for smash hits including “Suite 14,” “Raspão,” “Malbec,” “Senha Do Celular,” and “Espelho Meu.” Sertanejo has its origins in the countryside of Brazil from the early 1920s. Today, it’s the most played music genre on Brazilian radio, constantly topping the Brazilian music charts. Música Sertaneja albums have also been granted a specific category at the Latin Grammy Awards. The signing marks a significant step for BMG’s operations in Brazil as its team is officially putting their feet in this important market on the recorded side, while already representing the publishing of relevant Sertanejo catalogues.

GLOBAL DEAL PENDING: South Africa and the overall African continent have been a hotbed of musical activity in recent years with regards to international deals with US and other multinational based labels. A&R Worldwide has learned that a budding teenage singer/songwriter is on the cusp of signing a global deal with one of the top three major labels. The burgeoning artist evokes elements of cinematic and ethereal dark–pop and is already generating international multimedia support. Stay tuned to this page for a formal signing announcement in the not to distant future. Needless to say – publishing offers will be forthcoming once the label deal is formalized.

NO “JOSHING” THIS A&R: Sony Music Publishing Nashville (SMPN) has named Josh Van Valkenburg as its new Executive Vice President, Creative. Under his new role Van Valkenburg will be responsible for leading the company’s A&R strategy and supporting SMPN’s creative roster, and developing new talent, as well as delivering new opportunities for SMPN’s songwriters. Van Valkenburg will report to Rusty Gaston, CEO of Sony Music Publishing Nashville. During his extensive career, Van Valkenburg’s artist signings have secured over 70 No.1 hits on Country radio including the signing of Gabby Barrett, Kameron Marlowe, Luke Laird and many others. Van Valkenburg has worked with producers and songwriters including the likes of Jon Lite, Chris DeStefano, Josh Osborne, Chase Rice, Brett Elredge, Lindsay Rimes and many others. Van Valkenburg joined the company back in 2005 and has held numerous roles at SMPN including Sr. VP Creative prior to his most recent promotion.

PRESS FOR MORE SUCCESS: Warner Chappell Music (WCM) recently announced the promotion of Ryan Press to President, North America. In his new role, he will have direct oversight of WCM’s North American business and help drive overall strategy, with a focus on the U.S. and Canada. Vivian Barclay, Managing Director, Canada, will report directly to Press. In addition, he will remain the publisher’s A&R lead for the U.S., excluding Nashville and Miami, and continue to report to Guy Moot, co–Chair & CEO and COO Carianne Marshall, co–Chair & Coo. WONDERLICKIN’ GOOD: Australian–based music collective Electric Fields recently signed a global deal with Warner Music Australia and also unveiled a new management partnership with long–term manager Diane Sautelle, along with Gregg Donovan and Stu MacQueen, co–Founders & CEOs, Wonderlick Entertainment. Electric Fields consists of artist and performer Zaachariaha Fielding and composer/producer Michael Ross along with Sautelle. Electric Fields recently released their brand new single titled, “Gold Energy,” which is the debut track under the new Warner Music deal.

ADAMS JOINS THE FAMILY: Concord Music Publishing has announced the signing of rising Nashville–based indie–pop singer–songwriter Charli Adams. The worldwide agreement, effective immediately, will cover Adams’ full catalog, including her recently released debut album, Bullseye. Charli is a singer–songwriter whose music is a blend of genres spanning alternative, indie pop and indie singer–songwriter, pulling from 80’s rock and cutting–edge influences such as Tom Petty, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, The 1975 and The Paper Kites. Beyond her own projects, she has written for artists such as Chloe Moriondo, Peach Pit, Valley and Addison Grace. Adams continues to carve out her path within the indie alt–rock sphere garnering over 10 million streams on Spotify and features on playlists including New Music Friday, All New Indie, The Indie List, Indie Pop and many more. She has received similar exposure on Apple Music and was included on Taylor Swift’s Women’s Day playlist, among others.

THIS GRAHAM’S A MUSICAL CRACKER: A&R Worldwide has learned from Hampus Kivimäe at WIFE Management that their client Graham Lake is building buzz in Russia and beyond. The Swedish debutant signed with EMI Sweden label head Mikael “Misan” Wadström (Avicii, NOTD, Meduza, Dada Life) earlier this year and released debut single “FOCUS” a month ago, and immediately garnered strong support from Apple Music globally and has been climbing Russian airplay charts and currently going Top 20 – being the fourth most played song from UMG (after Elton John, The Weeknd and Bülow). The song currently has over 32,000 Shazam tags and growing internationally.

A DUTCH TREAT: The Holland–based CM.com has launched a new ticketing solution for the live events sector within the U.K and Ireland, which will see the ticketing division’s debut expansion outside of the Benelux region. Currently, the company’s clients include ALDA, Latin Village, Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix, Perron, Oh My Festival, and Westergas Events. The firm’s new U.K. & Ireland music and live division will be led by Paul Everett, former, Europe Head of Music, Eventbrite. Everett, who is based in London, England role will spearhead acquisition and growth for the company, whilst implementing the firm’s music strategy alongside the music and live team, which comprises former Live Nation, Eventbrite, Apple, AMG, and Pollen executives. ON THE DMA: Universal Music Publishing recently signed award–winning trio DMA’s to an exclusive agreement that includes Australia and New Zealand as part of its Australasian deal. The three–piece are one of the South Pacific’s most popular collectives who have scored numerous successes in the past, as well as the release of their most current EP titled, I Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going to Miss You. The recent deal was secured with the support of Arwen Hunt, Vice President Creative / A&R, Universal Music Publishing, Australia & New Zealand who has been a big fan of the trio for a number of years. DMA’s were signed to Mom + Pop in the U.S. and Infectious Music in the U.K. several years ago as a part of the international licensing success stories.

A SIGNING FROM COLOMBIA: Warner Chappell Music’s (WCM) U.S. Latin division has entered into a worldwide exclusive administration publishing agreement with Colombian DJ and producer Víctor Cárdenas. Most recently, Cárdenas collaborated with Farruko on the 8X RIAA Platinum–certified single “Pepas,” which reached No.1 in more than 20 countries and on nine different Billboard song charts, including Latin Airplay, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales. The smash hit has garnered over 325 million streams worldwide. Born in Tuluá, Colombia, Cárdenas first made a splash after teaming up with Dayvi and Kelly Ruíz in 2018 for their single “Baila Conmigo.” The song was later recorded by Jennifer Lopez in 2019, which turned it into a global success. Upon its release, Lopez’s version landed on the Latin Digital Song Sales, Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, and Latin Pop Songs Airplay charts, and eventually ruled Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart, becoming Lopez’s 18th No.1 single on the chart. Since then, Cárdenas has established himself as one of the pioneers of modern Guaracha music, a Colombian electronic subgenre that is taking center stage in the Latin market. Pierre Hachar, Jr., Esq. and Cody Pellicer, Esq. of The Hachar Law Group, P.A., negotiated and closed the deal.

NO PANE, NO GAIN: BDi Music recently signed burgeoning artist Roo Panes to an exclusive, worldwide publishing deal for his future works. Since releasing his debut album, Little Giant to critical acclaim in 2014, Panes has garnered in excess of 350 million plays on Spotify and over 28 million views on YouTube. Pane’s single “Tiger Striped Sky,” has secured over 145 million streams on Spotify to date, whilst the full–length album has more than 13 million streams on the platform. Pane recently secured sync placements on the US primetime TV shows Greys Anatomy and This Is Us.

UNIVERSAL NEW ROLES: Universal Music Group (UMG), recently unveiled the appointment of Naras Eechambadi as its Chief Data & Analytics Officer and Alexandra Hinkle as Chief Marketing Officer, Global Consumer Marketing. The newly created roles strategically advance UMG’s global e–commerce and direct–to–consumer strategy. Eechambadi, a leading authority in customer relationship management (CRM), data strategy and analytics, aims to accelerate UMG’s global consumer and fan data strategy, as well as extend the company’s industry leadership in data and analytics. Hinkle, with more than 25 years of experience leading cross functional marketing teams, will oversee Marketing Strategy, Campaign Strategy, Marketing Planning and Coordination, Audience Growth, CRM, Digital Innovation, Paid Media and Performance Marketing. Eechambadi and Hinkle will be based in Santa Monica and report to Richelle Parham, President of Global E–Commerce and Business Development.

“LEVANTATING” TO IMPEL: Levantine Music – an independent publisher focused on music from the Middle East and North Africa has joined IMPEL. Levantine Music brings authentic music from the MENA (Middle East, North Africa) region to the West, as well as developing and supporting local artists in the region. Its catalogue covers a range of different genres including Arabic classical music, pop, hip hop, rock and even children’s music. Levantine represents top writers, composers and producers from Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, UAE and more. The roster includes artists such as Tamer Nafar (DAM), Zuhair Francis, Kher Fodi (Wallaat), Deya Eleyyan, Lina Makoul, El Far3i, Mahmood Jrere, Amal Murkus, Hazy Noir and many more. Alongside mainstream publishing, Levantine Music is leading the Middle Eastern new age genre with artists who generate millions of streams such as Fanar, Nairuz, Sarab and more. THEY LOVE LUCY: Joe Calitri, President, Round Hill Records recently unveiled the promotion of Lucy Bartozzi to Sr. Director Marketing for the label. Bartozzi has launched marketing campaigns for Round Hill artists including Blues Traveler, Lit, Tash Neal, Jared James Nichols, Black Pistol Fire and others. In her expanded position, Bartozzi will be responsible for the global marketing strategy for all Round Hill and label imprint releases, leading the execution of all campaigns, while overseeing budgets and all creative, including advertising, video and album packaging. Bartozzi will also continue to oversee the expanding Marketing team including Merchandise/D2C, Production, Content and Digital, and will run album campaigns for The Cult, Lit, Jared James Nichols and others next year. She will be based out of the company’s new Nashville, TN headquarters.

DISTILLING ITS TEAM: London based independent music company Distiller Music Group has announced a number of staff changes within its UK team. Ian Carew joins as Consultant Head of Strategy. Distiller Music Group are one of the founding clients of his new venture idoesMarketing. Ian, who latterly held the position of MD at Virgin/Virgin EMI for over a decade, will help oversee the development of the company’s roster, working closely with the in–house team. Joseph Hatch joins the team as GM, working across the company’s new signings (records and publishing) and new business offerings. Joseph joins from AEG Presents where he headed up the marketing team for the company’s European festival portfolio (BST Hyde Park, All Points East). Joseph previously held positions at [Integral] /PIAS, Essential/Cooking Vinyl and Green Man. Sophie Lathom–Sharp has been promoted to the position of Campaign Manager working across all frontline campaigns. Sophie joined Distiller Music Group in 2018 from Sunday Best Recordings. Also, Jess Thompson has been announced as Label Coordinator at Distiller Music Group, with a remit to support the label and publishing team.

ABSOLUTELY NO GRIEF WITH REEF: Absolute Label Services has signed a deal with Reef for the iconic British rock band’s next album. Under the new deal, Absolute will provide a range of services including distribution, marketing and project management. Reef will release its new album, Shoot Me Your Ace, on April 15, 2022. The current title single was released a few weeks ago. The song is produced by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor. Taylor also joins the band as honorary guitarist, alongside new drummer Luke Bullen, formerly of Joe Strummer’s band the Mescaleros. Reef formed in 1993 and released nine UK Top 40 singles – most famously “Place Your Hands,” and four studio albums up to 2000’s Getaway, which includes 1996’s U.K. Platinum–selling No.1 album Glow. Absolute also supported the release of Reef’s 2018 Revelation album via earMUSIC. Today, the band have approximately 400,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with “Place Your Hands” having more than 35 million streams on the platform. Reef will begin a UK tour of the album in April.

COOKING UP MORE SUCCESS: Cooking Vinyl Publishing recently announced an exclusive, worldwide administration deal with renowned actor Kiefer Sutherland, which covers his forthcoming album, Bloor Street (scheduled for release January 2022), along with his back catalog. The actor has appeared in iconic films including Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, Young Guns, A Few Good Men, Flatliners, The Fugitive amongst others. Kiefer has also been developing his music career over the past five years, whereas he’s released two prior albums, which includes the 2016 release, Down In A Hole (Warner Music Nashville), and the 2019 sophomore release, Reckless & Me (BMG). Kiefer’s forthcoming album draws musical influence from Rock, Blues and Americana, and is produced and mixed by the multiple Grammy Award–winner Chris Lord-Alge.

STACCS OF NEW HIRES: Swedish tech startup, Staccs – a premium streaming service for concert video and music documentaries – has revealed key hires to its executive structure and announced the launch of Staccs Originals – a production suite creating exclusive and original content for the premium streaming service. The new hires include Kristofer Åkesson (Head of Staccs Originals), Jonas Thulin (Head of Business Development & Partnership Relations), Rickard Nilsson (Head of Artist Relations), Kristina Tunkrans Lidehorn (Advisor, Executive Board), Alviva Stolpe (Chief Financial Officer) and Sofia Stefanovic (PR & Marketing Coordinator) – all of which arrive bring industry expertise and experience, to help continue the company in building a robust global catalog. A SHEER OF A DEAL: The estate of legendary South African musician Johnny Clegg has signed a global publishing deal with Sheer Publishing, which is one of South Africa’s leading independent music publishers, and a division of Downtown Music Services. Clegg’s iconic catalog includes over four decades of his original songs, along with material from his previous band Juluka & Savuka. Sheer Music will only administer the publishing royalties for the Clegg family as they still own the rights. Clegg’s unique mix of English lyrics and Zulu musical influences have been a part of the South African music eco–system for decades. The recent deal with Clegg was orchestrated with the help of David Alexander, Managing Director, Sheer Music Africa. This is one of numerous deals Alexander has secured since Downtown acquired Sheer Music in 2020 in an attempt to further grow its footprint across Africa.

HOW SWEDE IT IS: Last week, leading international ticketing platform Eventim named Marcia Titley as its Managing Director, Sweden. For the past four years, Titley has been Managing Director for Eventim Norway, as well as a broader part of the company’s Eventim Scandinavia management team. Titley will continue to helm the role as MD of Eventim Norway, as well her new position in overseeing Sweden, and replaces Jay Sietsema who concludes his role as Managing Director for Eventim Sweden at the end of this month to pursue new avenues.

DIE–ING FOR A NEW SIGNING: Leading independent Australasian music publisher Native Tongue tells A&R Worldwide that it recently signed iconic New Zealand–based post punk icons Die! Die! Die! to its roster. The trio are one of the most prolific bands to emerge out of New Zealand’s noise rock and punk scenes over the past two decades and have enjoyed both local and international multi–media exposure and success. The three–piece will release its eagerly awaited new album, This Is Not An Island Anymore on February 18, 2022, which is preceded by their current single “Losing Sight, Keep On Ticking,” which was released last week. The recent deal was secured with the support of Pennie Black, General Manager, Native Tongue, New Zealand and Jaime Gough, Managing Director, Native Tongue Australasia.
