Bayley said, “There’s so much I want to learn and so much music I want to make in so many different areas – from Glass Animals records, to pop songwriting, to experimental sound design, to scoring. When it came time to re-sign my publishing, there were so many wonderful people, ideas and opportunities around that I began to feel a bit lost, but Universal Music Publishing and the incredible team of people there had drawn a long and clear path for me through those ideas... it just felt like a journey I wanted to take. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!” Jody Gerson, Chairman & CEO of UMPG commented, “I am a Glass Animals fan and I am especially delighted to work closely with UMPG’s global creative teams to amplify Dave Bayley’s talents as a writer and producer, not only for his band but also for other artists who inspire and excite him.” Recently, Glass Animals was named “Group of the Year” at Variety Hitmakers. They were also nominated for the 2022 Grammy Awards’ Best New Artist and BRIT Awards for Song of the Year (“Heat Waves”) and Best Rock/Alternative Act. Glass Animals is managed by Amy Morgan of September Management. Read more HERE.

UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP INKS EXPANSIVE DEAL
& WITH GLOBAL MUSIC ICON – THE WEEKND ![]()
Last week, Universal Music Group (UMG) , announced an expansive, long-term partnership with award-winning, multi-Platinum Canadian global music icon The Weeknd, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed recording artists and songwriters of the last decade. The agreement further builds upon the relationship between Abel Tesfaye (pka The Weeknd), and UMG’s Republic Records, which has been his label home and partner since 2012 and will remain his label partner for future recorded music releases.
The new expanded relationship will see Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) administer all his future works and songwriting catalog in a new long-term deal, upon expiration of his existing commitment. Tesfaye has already proven himself as one of the 21st century’s most prolific and skilled songwriters, breaking numerous chart and sales records throughout his career. The Weeknd holds the record for the longest-charting song in Billboard history, with “Blinding Lights” achieving an unprecedented 90 weeks on the Hot 100 chart.
![]() In addition, the new agreement also covers future audiovisual projects in collaboration with Republic Records and UMG. In making the announcement, Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group said, “Over the past decade, we have been honored to work so closely with Abel who has quickly become one of music’s most creative and important artists—a once-in-a-generation talent. With Sal and the XO team as our incredible partners, we’ve developed a deep trust and respect that has enabled us to successfully execute Abel’s brilliant vision. I am delighted that we are now able to expand this special relationship, welcome this world-class songwriter to UMPG, and evolve this creative partnership to new and exciting levels.” Wassim ‘SAL’ Slaiby, Founder, CEO, SALXCO & XO Records says, “Over a decade together says it all. Our relationship is built on trust, success, and family values. I am proud and excited to be beside Sir Lucian, Monte [Lipman], Avery [Lipman], Jody [Gerson] and the rest of the Universal family building our next decade together.” Monte Lipman, Chairman & CEO, Republic Records commented, “Abel is the consummate 21st century artist and global superstar who continues to break down creative barriers with his genre-bending repertoire. His success and career-defining accomplishments have made a historic impact around the world. It’s an honor to extend our alliance with Abel, Sal, Lamar, Cash and the XO Family in the evolution of The Weeknd.” Jody Gerson, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Publishing Group added, “The Weeknd is a world-class, boundary breaking artist and I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him and Sal to UMPG. Through this expanded and multi-faceted agreement, UMPG, Republic and Bravado global teams will be empowered to work closely together under one roof, maximizing opportunities and value for The Weeknd’s artistry in unprecedented ways.” Few artists have so profoundly impacted global culture over the past decade as The Weeknd, with more than 75 million albums sold, and numerous chart records broken. The Weeknd’s most recent album (Dawn FM), released in January 2022 through XO/Republic Records, has continued on the success path of its predecessor, breaking the Billboard Global 200 chart record, with 24 songs charting in its debut week, the most ever by any solo male artist. This multi-faceted agreement marks the beginning of a new era of expanded global collaboration between The Weeknd, XO and UMG. Read the full story HERE.

A&R WORLDWIDE’S "ARTIST OF THE WEEK"– DEAF HAVANA
![]()
In the last decade, brothers James and Matty Veck-Gilodi helped build a brilliant career, releasing five albums with their bandmates as Deaf Havana. In 2020, some turmoil hit the band, and everyone decided to walk away. They booked shows to cover their remaining debts and after that, Deaf Havana would be finished. Then COVID happened and the shows were cancelled, and the band didn’t have to think about their future for a long time. COVID shifted everyone’s priorities and Deaf Havana would become a duo, motivating the brothers to continue. The new chapter has been documented with the recordings of their sixth upcoming album, The Present Is A Foreign Land (SO Recordings), due July 15th, featuring the single “Kids.” According to James, the song is a retrospective romance with our younger years. Listen to the track HERE, and contact Adam Greenup at adam@silvascreen.co.uk, for available opportunities with Deaf Havana.
A&R WORLDWIDE’S "VIDEO OF THE WEEK"– TELENOVA
One of the brightest musical discoveries of 2021 is Melbourne trio Telenova. Their debut EP Tranquilize featured the cult hit “Bones” which earned support from triple j, BBC Radio 1, Apple Music One, NME, Vogue Paris and more. Telenova quickly found a passionate growing audience with their rich brand of pop and surreal visuals, all driven by enigmatic frontwoman Angeline Armstrong. The three-piece have recently released the single “Why Do I Keep You?” via Pointer Recordings. The new track showcases a sophisticated slice of modern nostalgia that evokes ‘90s melancholic guitar pop, without losing its contemporary lean. The band is gearing up for their UK tour with stops in London and Brighton, including The Great Escape festival May 11-14. Watch the visual for “Why Do I Keep You?” which was conceived and directed by Armstrong HERE. For additional information on the band and available opportunities, contact Adam “Weez” Booth at weez@clbr.co.
