ARTIST PUBLISHING GROUP UNVEILS
THE PROMOTION OF THREE EXECUTIVES




In a series of strategic moves, Artist Publishing Group has promoted three employees within pivotal areas of the business including Operations and A&R, as unveiled to A&R Worldwide by Mike Caren, Founder & CEO, APG.
Gabi Serafine
Gabi Serafine has stepped into the VP of Operations role which will support across Artist Publishing Group, Artist Partner Group, A Studio, and Caren’s various business endeavors. Gabi hails from a successful career in people operations and HR and has worked for well-known brands including Red Bull North America, Paramount (formerly ViacomCBS), and has grown with APG since joining the company in 2019. Gabi is currently focused on the build of APG’s 5-year strategic plan, providing career development and recruiting for high potential top executive talent, and tools for strategic growth.

Daniella Cabargas
Within A&R, Daniella Cabargas will move to Sr. Director and has been instrumental to building the publishing arm’s R&B roster signing producer/guitarist Loshendrix, whose work on “Good Days” landed him a Grammy nomination and Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100. Most recently, Daniella signed Alt/R&B artist Montell Fish, whose highly anticipated album, Jamie, debuted on July 22nd. Daniella also A&R’d the Blue Water Road album for Kehlani and has been developing new artists Zeina and Nelccia, for the Artist Partner label.

Josh Toll
Josh Toll will be promoted to Director of A&R in recognition of his numerous accomplishments and contributions. Josh signed songwriter Riley McDonough in 2021 and more recently, his producer brother, Connor McDonough (along with producer Cirkut) to Cirkut Breaker/APG. Riley and Connor co-wrote and produced the current Joji single “Glimpse of Us,” which went No.1 on both the Spotify Global and US Charts as well as No.8 on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, Josh signed Grammy-nominated producer Johnny Goldstein (in partnership with Sony Music Publishing), whose current singles include the Black Eyed Peas “Don’t You Worry” and Saucey Santana’s “Booty.”



DRU “FALCONRY” DECARO SIGNS WORLDWIDE DEAL
WITH POSITION MUSIC




Tyler Bacon, President & CEO, Position Music has announced that the company signed acclaimed songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Dru “Falconry” DeCaro known for his signature electric guitar style and his snowballing number of credits with the likes of Dua Lipa, Khalid, Machine Gun Kelly, Pop Smoke, Miguel (with whom he worked as collaborator and music director for 8 years), Iann Dior, Christian French, One OK Rock and others to a worldwide publishing deal.

DeCaro’s most recent cut, Em Beihold’s “Numb Little Bug” (Republic Records/ Moon Projects) is currently the No.1 single at HOT AC & TOP 10 at Top 40 radio. The single was co-written and co-produced by Dru. “Numb Little Bug’’ and has garnered well over 200 million total streams, landed No.1 on the Spotify Viral charts earlier this year and is already RIAA certified Platinum.

DeCaro is currently managed by Omid Noori and Ryan Sullivan of the ATG Group in Los Angeles. Falconry is the latest signing at Position Music, joining a songwriter roster that includes Harmony “H-Money” Samuels, No Love For The Middle Child, Kyle Reynolds, Greg Hvnsen, The Gomez Brothers, Boy Blue and more.



PULSE MUSIC GROUP PROMOTES ANNIE ABERLE
TO VICE PRESIDENT OF A&R




Scott Cutler and Josh Abraham, co-CEOs of PULSE Music Group and Ashley Calhoun, President, PULSE Music Group recently announced the promotion of Annie Aberle to Vice President, A&R, PULSE Music Group. Aberle was previously Senior Creative Director, PULSE Music Group. Aberle is based at the company’s Los Angeles headquarters and reports directly to Calhoun. Her responsibilities include signing, developing, and implementing creative strategy for PULSE Music Group’s world-class roster of songwriters and producers.

Since joining PULSE Music Group in 2018, Aberle has contributed significantly to the development of the company’s pop roster. Aberle works closely with PULSE Music Group client Tyler Johnson, who most recently co-wrote & produced Harry Styles’ “As It Was” (the song hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Official Singles Top 100 and has over 1 billion Spotify streams to date) as well as nine other songs on Harry Styles’ record-breaking No.1 album, Harry’s House.

More recently, Aberle directly signed Ryan Beatty, who is an artist in his own right and key collaborator in BROCKHAMPTON; Jorgen Odegard, who co-wrote and produced Justin Bieber’s hit single “H.O.L.Y.” feat. Chance the Rapper, and has collaborated with artists like Imagine Dragons, Khalid, P!nk, Ella Mai, Julia Michaels, and Kygo; and Jonah Shy who co-wrote and produced Shawn Mendes’ current pop radio hit “When You’re Gone” (who she signed via a joint venture with Scott HarrisSuperreal Records).


BMG TO ACQUIRE TELAMO –
GERMANY’S LARGEST INDIE LABEL




BMG has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Germany’s largest independent record label Telamo, the leading player in the market for German Schlager music. With a combined market share of 8.5%, a merger would create one of the largest German label divisions across all genres.
The deal, secured in a competitive process, is BMG’s biggest single label acquisition in Germany to date. Globally it is BMG’s largest label investment since the acquisition of Nashville-based independent country music powerhouse BBR Music Group in 2017. The acquisition includes not just Telamo and its labels, but also the leading digital offering Schlager für Alle, which has over 1.7 million users via Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Telamo was founded in 2012 by Kathleen Herrmann, Ken Otremba, and Marko Wünsch. All 29 employees as well as Managing Director Ken Otremba, will remain with the company. Telamo will continue to maintain its offices in Munich and Berlin. Kathleen Herrmann and Marko Wünsch will continue to act as consultants for Telamo.
The strategic transaction will open up additional cooperation opportunities for Telamo artists via the Bertelsmann Content Alliance and BMG sister companies including broadcaster RTL Group and book publisher Penguin Random House.


CONCORD ACQUIRES NATIVE TONGUE
& LAUNCHES CONCORD MUSIC PUBLISHING ANZ




Concord has announced the acquisition of independent Australian music publisher Native Tongue and the launch of its first offices in the Australasian region, Concord Music Publishing Australia & New Zealand (ANZ). Concord’s investment in Native Tongue and its staff marks another strategic move for the Company, further expanding its global reach and the resources that it can provide for its artists, songwriters, composers, and playwrights.
Concord Music Publishing ANZ will be based in Melbourne, with staff in Sydney and Auckland, and will be led by Jaime Gough, Managing Director, and Chelsea Gough, Sr. VP, along with their executive team including David Nash, VP Publishing and Matt Tanner, VP A&R.

The Native Tongue roster includes writers such as Courtney Barnett, Stuart Crichton (Backstreet Boys, Kesha, Kygo), Sophie Curtis (Cosmos Midnight, Jessica Mauboy, aespa), Sir Dave Dobbyn, Jon Hume (Dean Lewis, Sofi Tukker), M-Phazes (Ruel, Remi Wolf), Don McGlashan, Ciara Muscat (NiziU, TWICE), Steve Rusch (Clinton Kane), Tim Tan (Enhypen, Seventeen), Gin Wigmore and Marlon Williams. The company was founded by Chris Gough who has helped build the company into a formidable force in Australia and New Zealand, and hands off the reigns to his family members Jaime and Chelsea. Chris tells A&R Worldwide, “I’m about to pack the saddlebags and ride off into the sunset.”

Native Tongue is also the sub-publisher for many international catalogs and has represented Concord (and previously Boosey & Hawkes and Imagem) in Australia & New Zealand for more than 12 years.

MAMA MIA!: ABBA are undoubtedly one of the most prolific and successful pop acts in the history of modern music, and their influence and impact certainly extends across the world of pop culture. A number of years back, Benny Andersson the singer, musician, composer, producer and a key band member of ABBA was in Los Angeles meeting with the producers of the film Mamma Mia! to finalize the deal for the motion picture. Whilst in town, Benny stopped by to do his first ever live radio interview with his son Ludvig Andersson, and it all happened on the globally syndicated Passport Approved radio program. A video of the conversation and why ABBA turned town $1 Billion dollars to reform and tour the world is available on YouTube.

UMG SIGNS SUPERSTAR DJ & PRODUCER: Virgin Records Germany and Universal Music Netherlands, divisions of Universal Music Group (UMG), tell A&R Worldwide that they have signed (the return) of Grammy Award-winning producer and multi-Platinum-selling electronic dance music icon Afrojack, under a new partnership between the two labels. The signing of this global dance sensation and his label, Wall Recordings, also marks the first collaborative signing under Universal Music Central Europe’s newly launched dance and electronic music hub, which was set up to provide support and amplify success for independent electronic artists and labels within Central Europe, providing access to UMG’s global resources and networks to help build future worldwide EDM hits.

A NEW LITMUS TEST: Music industry veterans Hank Forsyth and Dan McCarroll are teaming up with Carlyle Global Credit (CGC) to launch a venture called Litmus Music. Litmus will be based in New York and will focus on acquiring and managing both publishing and recorded music rights. CGC is committing an initial $500 million (USD). CGC, which has $143 billion in assets under management, is investing capital into Litmus from what it calls its “Credit Opportunities strategy,” which has already deployed $2.2 billion in and around the media and entertainment space since 2018. CGC is one of three platforms that is operated by investment firm Carlyle. The firm had $376 billion of assets under management as of June 30, 2022. Litmus says it will “acquire and manage music rights, including both music publishing and recorded music, across genres, geographies and vintages.” CGC’s initial commitment of $500 million will be in both equity and debt, alongside “capital committed by management”, which will be used to launch the business and “fund the pursuit of a robust pipeline of music rights targets.” Carlyle was previously an investor in Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings, prior to its $1 billion acquisition by HYBE in February last year. Carlyle exited its position in the acquired company.

EXCELERATION ACQUIRES HEROIC: Exceleration Music, a company formed to what it says is to enhance the future of independent labels and artists, has acquired the catalog of Dutch independent Heroic Music Group. Heroic Music Group is a Dutch independent label, publisher and artist management company founded by Budi Voogt and Tim van Doorne in 2013. Focused on empowering creators, Heroic has managed the careers and released music of artists including TikTok sensation Ark Patrol, Unlike Pluto, rei brown, Stephen, San Holo, DROELOE and Taska Black. Exceleration will work to keep the recordings truly independent and ensure that the musical legacy that Heroic and its artists have created is preserved and enhanced across the global market.

INTERSCOPE TEAMS UP WITH STREETWEAR MAVERICK: Interscope Records is teaming up with streetwear legend Hiroshi Fujiwara to produce a collection of Interscope x Fragment gear for sale on Interscope.com. The collection will also be available beginning on Friday, August 5th in London’s Dover Street Market and Tokyo’s Bonjour Records retail outlet. Additional merchandise collaborations between Interscope and Fragment are in the planning stages. Fujiwara began as a musician who influenced fashion influencers in the West in the late 80s, since then he has been bridging streetwear and high-fashion and acting as an influencer, long before the advent of the internet. He also popularized hip-hop in Japan since his first visit to New York in early 80s. Widely considered the Godfather of Streetwear, Fujiwara has had previous collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Nike, Burton, Moncler, Levi’s, Stussy, BVLGARI, Supreme, Starbucks, Converse, Apple, TAG Heuer Carrera, Pokemon and others. He has also released 10 albums under his own name to date.

A NEW APPOINTMENTAT YMU: The US Music division of the international artist and talent management company YMU, have unveiled the appointment of Elena Awbrey to the role of an Executive Manager. Elena will report to Anthony Rodol, Managing Director, YMU Music US and Matt Colon, Global President, YMU Music, and takes on the role immediately, and will be based in Los Angeles. Prior to joining the team at YMU Elena was an independent artist manager. Her music career started at the touring department at Live Nation’s Los Angeles-based headquarters and then transitioned into management where she worked with rockers Motley Crüe, indie band Nico Vega, and eventually developing the acclaimed rock band Mannequin Pussy. Empress Of and Pamé who are two acts she currently represents will join her at YMU Music Elena who has a passion for developing new artists, also guided the career of the rapper Chika, which resulted in her being selected as a 2020 XXL Freshman and being Grammy nominated in the “Best New Artist” category.

BARK AT YOUR OWNER!: Bark At Your Owner AB (BAYO) has launched in Scandinavia. It’s a new music company co-founded and co-owned by John Cloud together with CMG Holding AB. Cloud started at radio in San Bernardino, CA during University, and moved to Sweden on an exchange program in 19885. He soon landed a position at Radium Records in Gothenburg promoting their artists internationally. In 1999 he left, along with others, to co-found Playground Music Scandinavia AB where he was first Head of Licensing & International then moved on to be Head of Synch Licensing & Head of Playground Music Publishing and at the same time dealt with infringements made with Playground’s masters rights. Cloud is starting BAYO together with Carl-Marcus Gidlöf (CMG Holding AB) and will split his time between the Playground office and the new BAYO office in Solna together with the other companies in the CMG Holding sphere; Icons Creating Evil Art, Despotz Records, Mars Music, Flick Agency, consulting in an advisory manner for the growth of the CMG Holding business. BAYO will start up a label and publishing business working with artists, producers, songwriters, and stand-up comedians (that’s not joke!).

INKING A NEW DEAL WITH BOOSEY & HAWKES: Orchestral aficionado and composer Ondřej Adámek  has signed a new deal with Boosey & Hawkes, which is a part of Concord Music GroupAdámek’s works include orchestral, chamber, vocal and electroacoustic music and are characterized by directness and finely formed moments of expression with artfully composed timbres. Always in search of sounds that go beyond the conventional orchestral apparatus, Adámek developed, through years of experimental work, the installation musical instrument “Airmachine.” The mechanical apparatus with rubber gloves, horns, hoses, and all kinds of valves had been created for the work Körper und Seele, which was premiered in Donaueschingen in 2014 with the SWR Vokalensemble and the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg under François-Xavier Roth. In the meantime, the ‘Airmachine’ has taken on a musical life of its own, and has been constantly used and developed in further compositions. Adámek’s works have been awarded numerous prizes, including the Prix de Bourges (IMEB, 2003), the Prix Métamorphoses (Belgium 2002, 2004), the Hungarian Radio Prize (2004), the Composer Prize of the Brandenburg Biennale (2006), the Prix Hervé-Dugardin (SACEM, 2009), the Composition Prize of the City of Stuttgart 2018, and many others. WMG EXPANDS PODCAST REACH: Interval Presents, the new in-house podcast network from Warner Music Group (WMG), today announced the addition of acclaimed series Rap Radar to its portfolio as part of its mission to amplify diverse voices and unpack trending conversations with cultural movers. Rap Radar, hosted by renowned music journalists Brian “B.Dot” Miller and Elliott Wilson, is the home of hip-hop’s biggest interviews. Through personal and in-depth conversations with A-list talent like Drake, Jay-Z, J. Cole, and A$AP RockyRap Radar looks for answers to the questions hip-hop fans have today. Interval Presents continues to build a roster of shows that aims to resonate with the growing number of young, diverse, and culture-forward listeners, having previously announced upcoming new shows hosted by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o as well as Grammy-nominated singer Jason Derulo, among others.

WASSERMAN MUSIC EVOLVES: Wasserman Music recently unveiled the expansion and reorganization of its services with its new Marketing Services & Digital Strategy department. Sam Alpert, Sr. VP Marketing will lead the new department where he brings expertise in the areas of Tour Marketing, Digital Strategy, Ticketing and Live Streaming. The department includes Wasserman’s seasoned tour marketing team with new employees Mary Pryor, Sr. Director, Strategy (she will be focused on Web3) and Sam Benfey, Director, Digital Strategy (honed-in on various digital opportunities). SIGNING A GLOBAL DEAL WITH MMM...EM: Sony Music Publishing recently signed rising American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Em Beihold to a worldwide publishing agreement. Since releasing her RIAA Gold-certified single “Numb Little Bug” earlier this year, Em Beihold has quickly become one of 2022’s most promising new artists. Her breakthrough hit debuted in the Billboard Hot 100 and has remained on the chart for 24 weeks, recently earning Beihold the No.1 spot on Billboard’s “Emerging Artists” chart. The track currently sits in the Top 20 on the Hot 100, while also reaching No.2 on the Hot AC charts. With 407 million global streams and counting, the track also reached No.1 on the Spotify Global Viral 50 chart and leapt into the Top 10 of the TikTok U.S. Top Tracks chart. On July 22, Beihold released her debut EP Egg in the Backseat featuring her brand-new single “Too Precious.” She also recently announced plans to join King Princess for a string of dates on her upcoming tour this fall.

KOBALT RE-SIGNS ROGÉT CHAHAYED: Kobalt has announced that it has re-signed Rogét Chahayed to a worldwide publishing administration agreement, including global synch and creative services for his future songs. The songwriter and producer had signed initially to Kobalt in 2017. Chahayed is a 2022 Grammy nominee for “Producer of the Year.” Rogét’s hits include DRAM’s “Broccoli” featuring Lil Yachty, Halsey’s “Bad at Love,” Miguel's “Sky Walker” ft Travis Scott, Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later,” Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More,” and most recently Jack Harlows “First Class.” The latter debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has now been in the Top 10 for 14 weeks. He has twice been named one of XXL’s top hip-hop producers of the year, and in 2021 Variety named him to their “Hitmakers” list.

TOBY LEIGHTON-POPE JOINS TEG EUROPE: Toby Leighton-Pope has been appointed Managing Director of the newly formed TEG Europe. Most recently, Leighton-Pope was co-CEO of AEG Presents in the UK, a position held from 2016 until December 2021. Prior to AEG, he spent 16 years at Live Nation. Throughout his career, Leighton-Pope has worked with artists such as Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Buble, and many others. In his new role with TEG he’ll oversee the operation, strategic direction, and rapid expansion of the UK-based arm of Australia’s live entertainment company. TEG Europe was formed last month and consolidates TEG’s UK-based operations into a single company, which is comprised of TEG Live Europe, TEG Venues, Propaganda, Ovation and Ticketek.

A GLOBAL PUBLISHING DEAL WITH BUCKS: Bucks Music Group has signed double platinum selling songwriter Marvee Woods to an exclusive, worldwide publishing deal. Woods first broke into the industry in the late ‘90s, featuring as a rapper on the C-Swing remix of A.W.O.L by UK R&B singer Beverley Knight, which was released on Parlophone Records. He also co-wrote “Shake It” - the B-side of the UK Top 10 single “Jumpin’” by Liberty X, which charted at No.6 in the UK. Woods went on to work with French pop star Matt Pokora on his Mise A Jour 2.0 album, which was released on EMI Music France. He co-wrote the song “Nothing” on the double-Platinum selling album. Woods is working with various artists currently, including Judge Jules, Junior Andre and producers Rymez, Ayo Beatz, Sky Adams and others.

UPPED “DOWN UNDER” AT LIVE NATION: Live Nation has appointed Mark Vaughan as Vice President of Talent & Artist Development for Australia and New Zealand. Vaughan will oversee the promoter team in Australasia as they continue to manage a growing conduit of tours in the region. Vaughan who was born in Australia, is a long-time promoter who has spent most of his career working in Europe. He was previously a partner and promoter at the Oslo, Norway-based at All Things Live. Vaughan will be relocating to Melbourne and started officially with the company last week.

CRUNCH DIGITAL LAUNCHES TEMPOTM: Crunch Digital, an independent provider of music rights management, royalty reporting and licensing services, has unveiled the launch of its beta version of TempoTM. The platform is a multi-dimensional sound recording curation and music publishing clearance ecosystem that immediately confirms what music can be used under existing licenses with music publishers and record labels. Tempo beta version currently available at no cost in advance of Crunch Digital’s roll out of its commercial subscription-based service this fall. The patent-pending online platform provides a one-stop solution to a myriad of problems that plague companies and services who have catalog licensing deals in place; however have trouble determining which songs they can or cannot use.

UNIVERSAL MUSIC VIETNAM LAUNCHES NEW LABEL: METUB, the Vietnamese MCN and mass media company and Universal Music Vietnam (UMV), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), have announced the launch of a new label, monoX. monoX is a pioneering label collaboration that will serve as a crucial linchpin between finding, developing, and introducing new Vietnamese artists into the spotlight. Embracing the idea that, “the world is your oyster”, monoX is fueled with ambitions to break new artists and connect to people and fans around the world with its music. The two companies, inspired by incredible young creatives, joined hands to announce this milestone at a press conference held in the heart of Ho Chi Minh city. monoX has been launched to be a thriving hub for exploring and developing talent, curating its finest catalog that best represents Vietnam to make a global impact.

MILES GERSH NAMED VP, A&R AT WARNER RECORDS: Miles Gersh has been promoted to Vice President, A&R for Warner Records, as announced by the company last week. Based at the label’s Los Angeles headquarters, Gersh reports to Co-Chairman & CEO, Aaron Bay-Schuck. Since joining Warner Records in 2019, Gersh has discovered, championed, and developed budding superstars such as Zach Bryan and CJ. CJ had a global hit with “Whoopty and Zach Bryan recently dropped a new nine-track EP, Summertime Blues, following on the heels of the breakthrough No.1 success of his debut Warner Records album, American Heartbreak. Gersh was most recently Director, A&R for Warner Records. He got his start in the music industry in 2018 at Doug Morris 12Tone Music. He has also served as Operations Manager for LA-based clothing brand Shadow Hill USA.

STROMAE’S MOSAERT LABEL SIGNS DEAL: Mosaert, the independent creative label and publishing company founded by Stromae, has signed a worldwide administration deal with Warner Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group. Stromae has sold more than five million albums and generated around 6.5 billion streams worldwide. He has received countless awards, including four Victoires de la Musique, four NRJ Awards and one MTV Award. Mosaert is run by Stromae alongside his wife Coralie Barbier, who is Creative Director and Fashion Designer; and his brother Luc Van Haver, who is Executive and Creative Director. Mosaert was founded in 2009 as a way of enabling Stromae to maintain greater artistic independence in his career. The label oversees all aspects of his work, from songwriting, production, visuals and videos. The company is accomplished and renowned for its creative expertise and has become involved in producing videos for international acts including Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Orelsan and others.

SARAH LANDY NAMED SR. VP AT FUGA: Downtown Music-owned FUGA has appointed Sarah Landy as its new Sr. Vice President Americas. Effective immediately, Landy will join FUGA’s expanding Los Angeles-based office where she will oversee all business development and client relations for North and South America. Landy was formerly Vice President at the independent record company called Lowly, where she spearheaded the business day-to-day, overseeing operations, marketing, creative, A&R, and sync. In her new position at FUGA, she’ll report to David Driessen, CCO and will oversee the distributor’s growing roster of clients in the region, including Epitaph, Dim Mak, Better Noise Music, and Sua Musica.

NOT “SOUNDING” GOOD: Michael Weissman, CEO SoundCloud recently unveiled the layoffs of one-fifth of its workforce through an email to employees. Weissman stated, “We will be making reductions to our global team that will impact up to 20% of our company. Making changes that affect people is incredibly hard. But it is one that is necessary given the challenging economic climate and financial market headwinds.” A spokesperson for the company confirmed that SoundCloud has announced an approximate 20% reduction of its global workforce due to a significant company transformation and the challenging economic and financial environment. Both UK and US employees impacted by the layoffs “will be notified over the next few days,” according to Weissman.

UNIFIED MUSIC GROUP EXECUTIVE PROMOTIONS: UNIFIED Music Group has stated that it’s promoting several key executives. The unveiling comes as the independent music group enters its second decade in business with promotions including Michelle Rose and Andrew Irwin. Rose joined the company last year from Live Nation and will transition from her role as Commercial Marketing Manager to the new position as Chief of Staff. She’ll report to the company’s Founder Jaddan Comerford and Matthew Rogers, COO, and will join the company’s leadership team to assist in driving overall business goals and leading the “People of UNIFIED” strategy. Irwin elevated from his role as General Manager & Finance, to his new remit as Chief Financial Officer where he’ll oversee and lead the finance team in the group’s long-term financial strategy, which has more than 10 companies under the UNIFIED umbrella. Additional promotions included Kate Lawrence who comes on board as Australian Label Manager, Ash Hills transitions to General Manager for artist management activities in Australia and New Zealand, and Julian Marshall takes on the helm as Operations Manager, Global.

QOBUZ & BLUE NOTE RECORDS’ GLOBAL INITIATIVE: Qobuz, the high-quality music platform, has teamed up with jazz label Blue Note Records for a global content initiative that will include exclusive playlists, editorial, original video content with Blue Note artists, and more. The initiative will also feature download sales of Blue Notes’ extensive, 83-year-strong catalog. To kick off the initiative, over 200 albums from the ‘40s-’70s are now on sale (through August 15th) at a 30% discount. The Blue Note initiative is the latest development in Qobuz’ effort to super-serve jazz lovers as a market leader in exclusive releases and original content. Last year, Qobuz worked with Christian McBride to exclusively release and record an original EP, The Q Sessions, in Hi-Res on its platform. The Blue Note initiative follows Qobuz’ other label partnerships with Zappa Records, Westbound Records, Secretly Group, International Anthem, Mercury KX, and others.

A UNIVERSAL ELEVATION: Universal Music Group (UMG), has announced that Frédéric Voillemot, who has overseen the company’s corporate development and strategy team for the past five years, has been elevated to CFO and EVP of Business Development for Africa, Middle East & Asia (AMEA).With the new role, Voillemot will serve as a key member of UMG’s AMEA team and work closely with digital and legal to ensure a cohesive commercial approach across the region. Based in London, he will report to Adam Granite, Executive Vice President of Market Development. Additionally, as a senior member of UMG’s global finance team, Voillemot will liaise with Boyd Muir, UMG’s Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer & President of Operations, and Philippe Flageul, UMG’s Executive Vice President & Controller. GETTING INTO A NEW GROOVE AT BEATPORT: The Beatport Group, home to music for DJs, producers, and their fans, has announced their appointment of Matt Gralen to the position of Chief Financial Officer. Matt most recently served as EVP of Corporate Development at UnitedMasters, a distribution platform for independent artists. Prior to joining UnitedMasters, Matt served as VP of Strategy & Operations at Mass Appeal, an entertainment company focused on hip-hop culture. He continues to serve as a Strategic Advisor to Mass Appeal and is a mentor at the startup incubator Techstars Music. Matt started his career at investment firms Raine Group and Goldman Sachs, where he advised and invested in high-growth consumer, media, and technology companies.

DISTILLING INTO NEW OFFERINGS: London based independent music company Distiller Music Group (Distiller) has announced the launch of a groundbreaking new division, which will focus on developing music-based TV opportunities in the Virtual Reality (VR) space. In recent years Distiller has filmed and broadcast numerous high quality music performance sessions championing established and emerging artists, via its own dedicated Distiller TV YouTube channel. The company will now film future sessions in 3D VR and have already trialed the technology with acclaimed up and coming artists Cassyette and China Bears, who were both filmed at The Loko Klub in Bristol. As well as the obvious benefits of a wholly immersive experience for the viewer, this new format allows the use of cutting-edge spatial audio in adventurous locations.
