As first-announced last year, exclusively in the A&R Worldwide newsletter before any other global music industry source, it’s now official – renowned global hitmaker Evan Bogart’s Seeker Music has arrived!
After two years of quietly acquiring catalogs in stealth mode, Seeker Music is launching publicly as a major new player in the music-rights space. Among the company’s early acquisitions are the legendary Christopher Cross’ complete catalog of copyrights and recordings - Seeker has been bringing Cross’ full catalog to streaming for the first time this year - and masters of the first three albums from groundbreaking hip-hop duo, Run The Jewels.

The young company is led by Evan Bogart, CEO, Seeker Music who, as a chart-topping songwriter himself (“S.O.S” by Rihanna, “Halo” for Beyoncé, “I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me” from Demi Lovato and more), brings a creator’s perspective to publishing along with lessons learned from his equally successful career on the business side.

Bogart is joined by Seeker’s Rob Guthrie, COO who is a label and publishing executive who oversaw the rise of SONGS Music Publishing (The Weeknd, Lorde, Q-Tip, Diplo/Major Lazer, Duran Duran) as the Head of Operations. Jennifer Scher joins as CFO and brings over 20 years of experience in private equity, corporate finance, financial operations and strategic planning at EMI, Spirit, Round Hill. In addition, also joining the team is Steven Melrose, a veteran label and A&R executive Co-President at Epic Records UK and Head of A&R at Capitol U.S., who worked with Katy Perry, Swedish House Mafia, Zedd and others.

Founded in Los Angeles in 2020 - where Seeker will be opening a studio space and creative campus in 2023 - Seeker is a catalog and frontline-based company that brings that creator’s perspective to the worlds of publishing, records, management, and sync.



BMG AND LME LAUNCH NEW LABEL TAG8
WITH ALBUMS FROM BLUE, PIXIE LOTT & ROACHFORD




BMG has partnered with management company Logan Media Entertainment (LME) to create a new record label specializing in a growing market for resurgent established artists.
Tag8 Music is launching with a roster of UK household names including Blue, Pixie Lott, Roachford, Louise Redknapp, and a cast album of The Drifters Girl musical featuring Beverley Knight. It is the first new label identity to be launched by BMG since it launched in the UK in 2009.

BMG will take responsibility for infrastructure, administration, distribution, and finance while LME will manage marketing and execution. In line with standard BMG practice, artists signed to Tag8 Music will retain ownership over their recordings.

BMG President of Repertoire & Marketing UK, Alistair Norbury said, “Our partnership with LME will enable us to open up many of the elements of the existing BMG service for established and proven artists to an entire new cohort. These days some labels are not interested unless they can be confident of achieving 50,000 album equivalents or more. The Tag8 Music set-up will be flexible to deliver at all levels.”

Craig Logan first rose to prominence in 1988 selling three million albums and five million singles as the bass player of UK band Bros. His next stop was EMI before joining forces in 1999 with veteran manager Roger Davies, with whom he worked on artists such as Tina Turner, Sade, Joe Cocker, and P!nk. In 2006, Sony approached Logan to run the RCA label group. Under his leadership, RCA sold 50 million albums and 50 million singles and won the 2007 label of the year award. Logan now runs Logan Media Entertainment, which represents a variety of artists including Anastacia, Dido, Alfie Boe, Imelda May, Beverley Knight, and Picture This (an act A&R Worldwide helped get signed to Republic Records) amongst others.

The globally renowned A&R Worldwide executive dinners have taken place on six continents since they first launched back in 1998 and have been held in dozens of countries including the U.S., Canada, India, New Zealand, China, Japan, Australia, France, Germany, South Africa, Portugal, Ireland, UAE, Scotland, Holland, Spain, Singapore, Czech Republic, South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Finland and many other countries. TOWNSEND MUSIC SIGN KAISER CHIEFS: Townsend Music has signed Kaiser Chiefs for a new studio album set for release in 2023 in partnership with Absolute/Utopia, V2 and The Orchard. The album has been produced by Rudimental’s Amir Amor and features other production collaborators including Nile Rodgers, Fryars and Lewis Thompson. Creative consultation came from B-Unique, the band’s original label and A&R team. B-Unique’s Mark Lewis and Martin Toher were behind some of the band’s most successful records, including their first four Top 10 albums and hit singles such as “Oh My God,” “I Predict A Riot,” “Everyday I Love You Less And Less,” and “Ruby.” A new single from the band, titled “How 2 Dance,” was released last week on November 4th. Kaiser Chiefs have kicked-off a UK arena tour on November 5th, with Townsend providing fans with the opportunity to pre-order the new album at shows via its D2C On Tour campaign model.

SECRET A&R APPOINTMENTS: Secretly Group has appointed Trinity Hood to the role of A&R Associate and Tony Messina-Doerning to A&R of its Los Angeles office. Hood and Messina-Doerning will help to drive careers of new signings, as well as work with the company’s existing roster of artists and songwriters which includes Faye Webster, Grizzly Bear, Japanese Breakfast, Leith Ross, Lonnie Holley, The War On Drugs, Whitney, and more. Both Trinity Hood and Tony Messina-Doerning will report to Eddie Sikazwe. Other recent hires for Secretly include Laura “Lau” Frias to the role of Brooklyn-based A&R Director for Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar, Saddest Factory Records and Secretly Canadian. Frias will report to Jon Coombs, Vice President, A&R.

NEW SIGNING AT SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING: Sony Music Publishing Nashville today announced the signing of award-winning songwriter and rising country star Madeline Merlo to a global publishing agreement. Merlo is the winner of the Season 2 premiere of NBC’s songwriting reality TV series Songland. The Canadian singer-songwriter first captivated audiences with her hit track “Champagne Night” performed by Lady A, which spent three weeks at No.1 on US country radio and earned her the 2021 Canadian Country Music Association Award for “Songwriter of the Year.” Recently, Merlo released her highly anticipated four-track EP Slide. Entirely co-written by Merlo and produced by Zach Crowell, the project delivers authentic female stories. From budding romances in “Slide” and the smash hit “I Need A Drink,” co-written by Sony Music Publishing songwriter Ashley Gorley, to growing up with “YOUNG-ish” and lessons learned in “Girl Where He Grew Up.”

YMU NAMES BIZ DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE: International artist management company, YMU, has announced the appointment of Sophia Margerison to the position of Global Business Development Director. Based between London and Los Angeles, Sophia, whose appointment is effective immediately, will report to Matt Colon, Global President of YMU Music. Prior to joining YMU, Sophia was Head of Live Music Partnerships at Pollen, where she curated and oversaw major events including a four-day rock weekend with Bring Me the Horizon in Malta, which was the company’s most successful live experience having sold out within an hour. In her new role, Sophia will have a remit to recruit new artist managers, broaden and diversify the company’s roster, and help oversee the global representation of YMU’s clients.

A&R EXECUTIVE NAMED MUSIC SUPERVISOR: Longtime U.S.-based label A&R executive Nick Haussling tells A&R Worldwide that he has transitioned into the role of Music Supervisor with the team of the renowned ad agency Walton Isaacson, and will be based out of the company’s Los Angeles offices. Prior to his transition to a music supervisor, Haussling had 20 years of experience researching, assessing and signing acts and making records for various record labels, which included Sr. Director A&R, Concord Music; Sr. Director/Head of A&R, Razor & Tie and over 13 years as Director A&R at Warner Records.

SKEPTA LAUNCHES BIG SMOKE CORPORATION: Multi-award-winning UK artist Skepta has launched Big Smoke Corporation. Big Smoke Corporation is a multi-faceted creative collective. Joseph Adenuga aka Skepta takes on the role of CEO. Big Smoke Corporation’s mission is to nurture and invest in the next generation of young creative talent and executives across multiple fields, to ensure they can succeed no matter what their background. Taking the entrepreneurial ethos that first drove Joseph Adenuga’s music career, Big Smoke Corporation are building a new approach to creative consultancy and the support of creators themselves. Big Smoke Corporation have signed creative and commercial partnerships with PUMA with whom they have an on-going relationship with. Last Thursday, Big Smoke Corporation launched the PUMA RX-S trainer, with an immersive event at Outernet London, the new immersive media and culture district, featuring a special performance by Skepta. Big Smoke Corporation will be announcing further projects and partnerships across technology, events, TV & film production and music in the near future.

Mendes has crafted a number of hits, including Jon Bellion’s “All Time Low” and “Guillotine,” Isaac Dunbar’s “Fools Paradise,” Cheatcodes’ “Love Me For Now,” and many more. Page 1 Management was founded by former Warner Music New Zealand A&R music executive Ashley Page and is led in the US by A&R specialist Danielle Middleton. The company has a global footprint in New York, Nashville, London, Sydney, and Auckland and represents a broad roster of creators, including GRAMMY award-winning writer-producer Joel Little (Taylor Swift, Khalid, Imagine Dragons, Lorde), Grammy nominated Drew Pearson (Zac Brown Band, Kesha, Phillip Phillips), creative team ClickNPress, and artist Jawsh 685, among many others.

EUROPEAN AUTHORS & COMPOSERS SEND NOTICE TO EU: GESAC and ECSA have announced European songwriters and composers met with the Members of the European Parliament to express their concerns about the growing phenomenon of buy-out and work-made-for-hire contracts imposed on them by the major non-EU based VOD platforms. Buy-out contracts force creators to waive their copyright/authors’ rights in full or in part, effectively eliminating the possibility of receiving future royalties for the use of their work. The statement states that coercive practices imposed directly or indirectly by giant non-EU VOD platforms deprive audiovisual (or screen) composers from an appropriate and proportionate remuneration, as well as the exercise of their moral rights. In addition, the release says that the practice severely undermines creators’ ability to earn a living through their artistic work. Authors even lose ownership of their work in the case of work-made-for-hire contracts.

 OVER THE MOON WITH WARNER CHAPPELL: Moon Projects has announced the launch of its publishing division which will be in partnership with Warner Chappell Music. Moon Projects is a record label that was founded by former TikTok executive, Mary Rahmani. The label’s first joint venture with a major music company was through an imprint with Republic Records and artist Em Beihold. The new partnership with Warner Chappell Music will mark Moon Projects’ second joint venture with a major company. Moon Projects offers creative services including creator curation, strategy for short-form video platforms, and digital consulting services.

HOWARD PRICE GARNERS NEW ROLE WITH BUCKS: Bucks Music Group has appointed experienced music publishing executive Howard Price as its new Head of Media. Reporting directly to Simon Platz, Managing Director, Bucks in his new role, Price will be responsible for maintaining and developing the company’s relationships with composers, broadcasters and production companies, as well as managing publishing interests in music composed for film, TV and media. Price has over 25 years of music publishing experience, starting his career in the EMI Music publishing copyright team, before specializing in media relationship management. During his career, Price has secured and led business relationships with global media companies, including ITV, Discovery, Mattel, Endemol Shine, Entertainment One, Hartswood Films and Bauer Media.

WARNER CHAPPELL MUSIC KOREA RENEWS GLOBAL DEAL: Warner Chappell Music Korea has announced that it has renewed its worldwide publishing agreement with 153/Joombas Publishing. 153/Joombas is one of the top independent music publishing companies in Korea with a roster of almost 100 writers. The company, which was founded by Hyuk Shin, a South Korean record producer, has significantly contributed to the expansion of K-Pop in the global market. The new agreement, which continues a partnership dating back to 2018, covers 153/Joombas Publishing’s full catalog that includes songs written for K-Pop artists such as Aespa, BTS, Exo, Got7, IU, Itzy, Monsta X, Red Velvet, Seventeen, and others.

NAXOS MUSIC GROUP LAUNCHES DEAL WITH FUGA: Naxos Music Group and Fuga have formed an extensive partnership to amplify the global presence of classical music. The companies will work together to leverage Naxos expansive catalog of classical titles. Naxos was founded in 1987 by Klaus Keymann as Naxos Music Group and now distributes over 90,000 titles. Fuga works with 800 clients across more than 70 countries including Better Noise Music, Beggars Group, Ninja Tune, and more. The new partnership will allow Naxos Music Group access to the full suite of services offered by Fuga which includes digital distribution, marketing services, royalty accounting, and more.

UMPG UNVEILS DEAL WITH IRVING BERLIN ESTATE: Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has announced an exclusive global publishing agreement to represent the iconic song catalog of Irving Berlin. The deal builds upon UMPG’s existing relationship with Berlin’s estate as the company has served as his catalog administrator, ex-US, since 2012. Berlin has composed more than 1,500 songs over his 60-year career, from ballads and dance numbers, to love songs and Broadway scores. Under the expanded agreement, UMPG will represent Berlin’s catalog of renowned classics including “Anything You Can Do,” “Blue Skies,” “Cheek To Cheek,” “How Deep Is The Ocean,” “It’s A Lovely Day Today,” “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” “Let’s Face The Music And Dance,” “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” “The Song Is Ended (But The Melody Lingers On),” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” Guinness World Records’ longtime best-selling single “White Christmas,” and more.

SONY MUSIC TO DEVELOP ISRAELI ARTISTS: Sony Music Entertainment Continental Europe and Africa has announced it has entered into a new joint venture agreement with management and record label ONEWAY. Records, to discover and develop new artists from Israel with international appeal. The new joint venture will focus on discovering and signing artists with English-language repertoire, and leverage Sony Music’s global reach and extensive experience to showcase artists to audiences around the world. ONEWAY. Records is founded by music executives and brothers, Josh and Sam Fluxgold. The two are former managers of Dennis Lloyd, discovering the Israeli singer and songwriter in 2017 and enjoying historic international success for the Israeli artist with over two billion streams, various Platinum and Gold records across several markets and multiple sold-out world tours across US, Europe and Australia.

AIF NAMES JOHN ROSTRON AS CEO: The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) has named John Rostron as the new CEO. Announced during AIF’s 2022 AGM, Rostron’s appointment will take effect on November 18th. Rostron is the Founder and current Chair of the Association of Independent Promoters (AIP) and will step down to take over the CEO position with AIF. Among his accomplishments and experience, Rostron co-founded the AIF member Swn Festival in Cardiff, Wales in 2007, is a former CEO of the Welsh Music Foundation, and a co-Founder of the Welsh Music Prize. Rostron will take over the role after a two-week handover period with the current AIF CEO Paul Reed.

WME SIGNS GLOBAL DEAL WITH YUSUF/CAT STEVENS: WME has signed Yusuf/Cat Stevens in all areas for global representation. The legendary musician, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and is a two-time recipient of the ASCAP “Songwriter of the Year Award.” Yusuf/Cat Stevens was previously with the UTA Agency and is currently represented by his son Yoriyos Adamos. Known for his hits including “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” “Father And Son,” “Wild World,” “Moon Shadow,” and more, Yusuf is currently working on a new album, autobiography, and an upcoming global tour.

WISE MUSIC GROUP OPENS IN ICELAND: Wise Music Group has launched Wise Music Iceland EHF. This is the first time that an international publisher has opened a business in Iceland. Wise Music Iceland EHF is a joint venture between Edition Wilhelm Hansen, which will handle day-to-day technical operations, and Bosworth Music GmbH, which will be the driving partner for A&R and new signings. Wise Music Group already has ties to Iceland with a roster that includes composers such as Ólafur Arnalds, Hugar, Eydís Evensen, Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Dustin O'Halloran and will further expand its establishment with the new launch. Inga Weisshappel will take charge of the company and will communicate with composers, film and television companies, and Icelandic collecting society STEF.

SONY’S MASTERWORKS NABS STAKE IN AMAC GLOBAL: Sony Music Masterworks, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, has announced a new majority investment in MAC Global, the award-winning, pan-regional concert promotion, talent management, events and production company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Founded in 2014 by Rob McIntosh and Daniel Goldberg, MAC Global is recognized as a leader in the live music and live entertainment industry in the Middle East, known for bringing big-name international touring acts to the region such as Ed Sheeran, Michael Bublé, Drake and Sia, among others. Day-to-day operations of the company will continue to be led by McIntosh and Goldberg, who in turn will work closely with Mark Cavell, President of Sony Music Masterworks, Josh Lerman, Masterworks Senior Vice President of Business Development and Ollie Rosenblatt, Managing Director of Senbla. With this agreement, Sony Music Masterworks is further expanding its presence in live music and event production around the world.

BEATSOURCE GOES COUNTRY: Beatsource, the digital music platform for open-format DJs from DJcity and Beatport, have confirmed the addition of Country music as an official genre via their online streaming catalog, Beatsource. The addition of Country music to Beatsource, source of hip-hop, pop, and electronic music for DJs, makes the platform the first to carry and market an extensive Country music catalog to DJs, including exclusive DJ edits. Country music remains one of the most popular genres of music in the US with 139 million fans – making the genre the fourth-most listened to behind rock, pop, and R&B according to Billboard. Beatsource’s official Country genre includes streaming catalogs from every major label, covering country hits from the 70s all the way to the present. Like Beatsource’s many official genres, the newly added Country music genre will feature a weekly curation of classic tracks, new releases, full albums, and more.

A&R WORLDWIDE’S "ARTIST OF THE WEEK" – SAWYER UTAH



Emerging 21-year-old writer, producer, artist and multi-instrumentalist Sawyer Utah began his music journey writing and recording music in his bedroom. His story started in the college town of La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he mastered the art of engineering and production, while honing-in on his skills at songwriting. After a conversation with a friend of a friend that connected him to Nashville music executive Norbert Nix, Utah was fast-tracked into the songwriting circuits in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville. Israel’s Lola Marsh create music that combines clever lyrics with deep, warm melodies. Vocalist Yael Shoshana Cohen and multi-instrumentalist Gil Landau began their rise five years ago with the release of their impressive debut EP, You’re Mine. This was followed by their first album, 2017’s Remember Roses, which earned more than 72 million Spotify streams, earning praise from NPR, NYLON, Interview Magazine and The New York Times among others. Their single “Wishing Girl” became a fan favorite and was featured in ads for leading brands such as Ebay, California Lottery, and the French perfume Guerlain. Lola Marsh’s sophomore album Someday Tomorrow Maybe has accumulated over 50 million Spotify streams, and as their momentum kept building, the duo co-wrote a song for the 2016 Kevin Costner film Criminal, recorded a cover of Frank Sinatra’s “Something Stupid” for the AMC series Better Caul Saul in 2018 and contributed their song “Only For A Moment” to the 2022 Netflix movie Purple Hearts.
